Going to be interesting to see what a different coaching group can do to some of our players.

I think some will respond and some will falter.

How will Martin come back? will Hayes be any good? Can they get the best out of Redman or Langford? Will fiorini play a role?

This drastically changes the makeup of our side.

I saw another poster @VanDerHaar posted this earlier

  • Nick Martin, 25 y/o 192cm Utility, mid/fwd
  • Lewis Hayes, 22 y/o 199cm Defender
  • Kiddy Coleman, 26 y/o 183cm Running defender Merrett pick with a Bris 3rd round pick coming back
  • Bailey Banfield, 28 y/o, 190cm defender (Rookie spot)
  • Jack Bowes, 28 y/o 189cm Mid (traded by Carts for our future 3rd)
  • Noah Mraz, 20 y/o 198cm Key defender (Merrett deal )
  • Ethan Drever, 18 y/o 188cm Inside/outside Mid (1st open pool pick)
  • Tyson Bradley, 18 y/o 195cm Key defender (natural 2nd)
  • George Dimer, 18 y/o 173cm small forward (Cochrane bid compo)
  • Blake Justice, 18 y/o 191cm mid/fwd (later pick)
  • Tyler Sellers, 24y/o 193cm defender (late pick)
  • Deacon Kalpakis , 22 y/o , 194cm defender (additional rookie spot )

Now i doubt we get Coleman and Mraz, but does highlight just has dramatic one offseason can be to a list

Just had another thought. If the additional rookie spots aren’t separate to our list, and we’ve currently got 6 rookies, does that mean we’ve actually got 5 main list spots open?

Last year the eagles had 33 senior listed players (32 plus 1 cat B rookie they had to upgrade) and 4 rookies going into the draft. Everywhere I can find lists the eagles as having 5 picks going into the draft. Unfortunately that’s exactly the wrong number of rookies for it to tell us anything useful.

So with Perkins now re-signing the state of play is:

Delisted:

Tsatas, El-Hawli, Guelfi, Gresham, McMahon

Likely Trade:

Merrett, Ridley

Uncontracted:

Cox, Gerreyn, Edwards, Nguyen (Cat B Rookie)

Unless there are some movements on contracted players, be it trades or payout and delist (Parish, Langford, Redman, McKay, Jones, etc) it won’t be a terribly deep list purge for a 2-win team. Factor in we are also likely to pick up some players via trade (Bowes, possibly Viney and Vandermeer), a turnover of 8-10 players will result in 4-5 picks in the ND if that…

Essendon should opt out of the draft completely, and recruit no-one for the next three seasons so that the new regime can fully evaluate the list cloggers.

Three more years for everyone on the 2026 list.

I think give this coaching group 2 years, if they haven’t turned McKay et al into a superstar team in 2 years then clearly it’s the coaches’ fault and we should turf them.

And extend everyone on the list, obvs.

Want a Cat B rookie who is a former boxer. Only needs to be able to lay out Merrett in round 1. Don’t mind if he gets a few weeks!!!

With Merrett gone, we are at what 40 on the list? I’d imagine Edwards gets the cut. I don’t think we would cut Gerreyn as ruck depth option. I also read that Cox’s future depends on the level of assistance package so I think he is more likely going. No idea about Nguyen but would think if we are looking at Vandermeer that he may have some trouble. So maybe 38 list spots taken?

Draft picks 1, 15, 19 and compo for 20, 25, and 60. As well as targets in Jack Bowes, Laithan Vandermeer, Will Mclachlan, and potentially someone else. This will be a tight fit.

I always like the option of SSPs and a list spot available for MSD, so the assistance helps, but also sounds like the preference might be for Bailey Banfield and Tyler Sellars.

Yeah, I don’t think we have opened up sufficient list spots just yet.

It’s certainly a tight fit I’m still a bit suprised and confused with signed Perkins so early. I would bank on us trading up the order I can’t see any more than 4 players going in the main draft and I think we will try and let Justice go to rookie draft

Taking only 4 players in the national draft would surely be a fail. We should be turning over more than that

We can’t be too young

My info is we want to take 4 early picks inside 30 then take one later on in the draft.

Spots are tight

OUT: Tsatas, Guelfi, Gresham, El-Hawli, McMahon (all delist), Merrett (trade)

IN: Artemis (MSD)

That’s 5 list spots freed up currently. Scope to have a few more with Cox, Edwards, Gerreyn and Nguyen all without deals for 2027. Possible trade of Ridley, also rumours of a potential payout of McKay’s contract, how likely it is not sure. If we want to bring Bowes in and possibly one other trade/DFA signing and go to the draft with 5 selections, we would need to clear another 2 players off the primary list.

The way I see our current list

Spots arent tight really.

We can very easily delist each player still out of contract. Pay out Jones and or McKay if required. It’s quite easy to find spots.

We have won 2 games in about a year and a half. A side with that sort of record should be cutting hard.
