List build - where are we going in the next 70,000 posts? (Part 3)

Very good pick-up. So that would mean 3 outs would be required. Ridley traded and 2 delistings does it.

Yeah it’s going to be interesting if we don’t cut anyone else contracted.

Nguyen would be a no brainer for me to extend, but as a Cat B that means nothing in regards to list spots.
I’d also hold onto Gerreyn and Cox
Edwards has shown a bit, but at his age I have him behind those two.

If we could only keep one of the three (Edwards, Cox, Gerreyn) I’d stick with Gerreyn.
Has height, athleticism and a knack for kicking goals when played in position. If he gets delisted after we’ve wasted over a year of his development in defence, i’ll be a little peeved. Locked onto him as my Voss replacement early.

What are our options for using our two additional rookie spots? Who of our potential pickups (if any) could go to those spots, or can anyone unsigned or signed be shifted to a rookie spot?

I genuinely wonder if we’re seriously seeing Blake Justice slide through to the rookie draft

ive got it as this;

I doubt it.
If Huss couldn’t make it last year, I don’t see clubs letting us get a freebie in Justice.

Does anyone know if you can add NGA prospects that weren’t taken in the ND directly to the rookie list, or is it only Cat B?

I guess it could explain our reluctance to sign Nguyen as of yet.
If we don’t have both on our list in some way next year, we’ve ■■■■■■ up.

I suspect you can (AFL has stopped making their rules PDF public so I can’t check), but it doesn’t really matter. You can take additional cat B’s and they just get taken out of the maximum cat A rookie numbers.

Cheers. I remain baffled regarding what we’re doing with Nguyen then.

Not everything gets announced immediately after the season ends.
Don’t see any reason we wouldn’t re-sign him for 1 more year as cat B.

If Justice doesn’t attract a bid before 36, we can auto select with our next pick in the draft. Points no longer come into consideration when bid on.

Thanks for stating the obvious.
At the same time, he’s one of only 3 players yet to sign a contract, and should have been one of the easiest decisions to extend given the Cat B status.

Might be nothing, but it’s still a little concerning.

With Zach’s departure confirmed, we’re now an incredibly young and inexperienced team.

1 player > 30 years of age

1 Peter Wright 8 Sep 1996 30
2 Kyle Langford 1 Dec 1996 29
3 Darcy Parish 25 Jul 1997 29
4 Brayden Fiorini 22 Aug 1997 29
5 Mason Redman 26 Aug 1997 29
6 Ben McKay 24 Dec 1997 28
7 Will Setterfield 5 Feb 1998 28
8 Andrew McGrath 2 Jun 1998 28
9 Jordan Ridley 20 Oct 1998 27
10 Nic Martin 24 Dec 1999 26

1 player with > 200 games

  1. Andrew McGrath — 200
  2. Kyle Langford — 181
  3. Darcy Parish — 179
  4. Peter Wright — 170
  5. Mason Redman — 159
  6. Xavier Duursma — 128
  7. Brayden Fiorini — 125
  8. Archie Perkins — 117
  9. Sam Durham — 111
  10. Jordan Ridley — 111

You can see why the club is targeting the ‘missing middle’; 25–28 year old, 100–150 game players.

I’m getting tired of this young and inexperienced rubbish.

We have plenty of senior bodies, unfortunately they are just average footballers. We do not need more of the same.

Build through the draft. 3 of them made top 10 in the Crichton this year, and the experienced guy we brought in didn’t do jackshit for our infield performance. Rosa has been good drafting to date, let’s see give him a shot at replicating that.

Doesn’t make a huge difference to the point, but there are a few errors and omissions there. The 26+ bracket is missing Caldwell, Duursma, Blakiston, (and Edwards, uncontracted). The 100+ games is missing Caldwell. Martin’s 25, not 26 (01 not 99). The 25 bracket also includes Jones and Prior (and Bryan in a couple of weeks).

Given we may have 6 rookies already, we may be able to use them for senior spots. It depends on:

  • exactly what rules attach to the additional rookie slots
  • Whether when we re-signed May and Blackiston if we kept them on the rookie list for 2028 (their third years).

So say Justice gets bid on at 37, we can match with 60?

So what I stated was obvious.
Yet you are baffled and concerned.
Right. Gotta spend them panic dollars somewhere I guess.

ive seen some amateur rookie draft watchers have Blake ranked as low as 49, thats pretty damn close to rookie listing. It’d be another stroke of luck for Blake to get through (I dont think it will but its not out of the realms of possibility)

Correct, if that is our next available pick :+1:
