List build - where are we going in the next 70,000 posts? (Part 3)

It does seem odd seeing best 22’s for season 2028 which have bookmarked every high pick from now until then, when in other threads we’re talking about delisting two very high selections from recent drafts.

It all seems a bit silly, I wouldn’t really be ticking many yet as certainties. Even the way someone like Roberts gets talked about already, think we have a long long way to go.

List build - well we are not going anywhere special until we have at least 2 or maybe 3 genuine A graders on our list.

When you look at results I think its fair to suggest that having above average tall forwards hasn’t been a key feature of most premiership teams. Tough backlines and deep skillfull midfields are the requirements. In finals, small forwards seem to have had far more impact in recent years.

BUT WADDABOUT DA SPINE!!!

Everyone knows we’re a spineless club.

I do not know where that brain fade came from. Haven’t thought of Hislop in years!

Where do we currently sit with list spots etc?

We can win with Redman, McGrath and say a Ridley if he turns around his injury problems, in another 4 years.

Was that game more than 4 years ago?

If WCE can get assistance package for stuffing their list up after winning a GF 7 years ago and only 9 games in 3 years. Surely we should ask for one.

6 finals since 2004…

The biggest addition to our list has been made, Matt Innes and subsequent (hopeful) comtinuity.

Doesn’t matter who you draft, how great that first year player was or the quality of the player traded in if you can’t get on the park.

I’m curious to see the heights Caldwell, Ridley and Reid can get to uninterrupted. Same goes to Kako, Roberts, Clarke and co; how good will it be to see these guys actually build on their first years injury-free.

We have gaps aplenty, but maybe a couple less than though (and maybe a couple of A graders in waiting) now we have a proper S&C team.

We would absolutely get assistance if we bottomed out. Instead of striving for 12th every year we should have torn the list down and gone the full rebuild route years ago

Still have a glaring gap with player development staff. No point having a list if players can’t be developed properly.

I think we are seeing good signs on that front. Better VFL program; kids making an impact when selected. Let’s see if Roberts continues to build and if Clarke or Johnson make a leap.

How many games did we win in the last 3 years?

Well, our rock bottom game was 4 plus years ago. When Bulldogs beat us by like 119 points and Ridley, McGrath and Redman played.

We have one of those every season post the mid season bye

The tassie draft package could help us. Is it the same draft as Bewick? Having a series of Tassie picks that must be traded could be perfect for us to get additional points.

What if Tassie want some of our guns wth those picks?

Provided you have players they’re interested in. Matt Guelfi for pick 9 sound good Tassie?
