Club should be screaming from the rooftops for priority picks this year.
His mates on here are saying itās all Scottās and Rosaās fault.
It also not like Dodoro to ever admit to any blame.
Like everything trying to pin blame on one person is pointless as itās a shared responsibility of everyone to make the club better. The problem is they all have egos the size of small planets, and think that everyone else is to blame
I think everyone on here who has a pot shot at Caldwell are even more deluded! What do you expect Caldwell to say? Yes weāre rebuilding! Our list is no good?
Itās a question asked during an ANZAC Day promo shoot so heās hardly going to throw the list under the bus is he?
We should have put more games into some of our younger players, but right now I think Tsatas and Hayes are the only players under 24 on our list who could have played 50 games. At 24 you can add Reid and Bryan. Our botched 2021 (Hobbs did play 50) and probably botched 2022 drafts are as big a problem there as any team selection issues.
I will never ever understand the logic of putting Setterfield back on the list or trading for Fiorini on a 4 year deal.
This whole forum knew both moves were horrendous, how did list management not know
List Cull as follows for mine:
Darcy Parish (trade - get what you canā¦)
Kyle Langford (trade - we might get a late 2nd rounder if weāre lucky)
Zach Merrett (trade - 1st rounder for sure; anything more is a bonus)
Jade Gresham (delist)
Nik Cox (delist)
Jordan Ridley (trade - 2nd rounder and ambulance cover?)
Archie Perkins (trade/delist/donāt care)
Harry Jones (trade/payout)
Jason Prior (delist)
Ben McKay (trade - get what you canā¦)
Matt Guelfi (delist)
Rhys Unwin (delist or rookieā¦heās young but he butchers the ball)
Liam McMahon (delist)
Will Setterfield (delist)
Mason Redman (trade - get what you can)
On watch:
Brayden Fiorini - on a 4 year free ticket. Started the season poorly. If he doesnāt improve Iād be inclined to stick him in the window too.
So just the 15 changes then?
Do you think Dodo sits there watching us and thinks itās Rosa and the current regimes fault we suck? Or does he know deep down?
I think how blame should be apportioned is the subject of a different thread.
Club should be screaming from the rooftops for priority picks this year.
There is a thread discussing that in this forum.
We should have put more games into some of our younger players, but right now I think Tsatas and Hayes are the only players under 24 on our list who could have played 50 games. We definitely botched pick #13 in 2021, but not really the others. That was a very bad draft depthwise (which is ironic given everyone thought the exact opposite), hitting Martin and Voss was actually an exemplary result. 2022 how much was it bad selections, versus bad development? Under a different development system would we now have 1-2 Daveyās running around causing havoc with Tsatas feeding them from the middle?
Iād also note its a bit early, but later picks in the 2022 ND/RD arenāt looking great across the league either.
I think it is way too early to talk about non-trade/senior delistings. A player like Cox is currently doing terribly in the VFL, but has most of the season to improve. Similarly with May, or guys I really write off like McMahon. Edwards in one VFL game shut up a lot of naysayers, although obviously he could now do nothing and get delisted through to establishing himself in the senior team.
Even Jones could turn his career around. Weāre only 3 games into the season.
Even Jones could turn his career around
And pigs could fly sooner.
Then 12 months later, the club and supporters are sick of ārebuildingā and want to hurry up the processā¦.. and abandon the plan by going after a bunch of mediocre free agents and give 5 year contracts to mediocre players.
This is not ārebuildingā. Just because youāre tired of rebuilding, and throw the long term plan out the windowā¦.. it will not take you to a Premiership.
Signing Prior or Fiorini isnāt throwing out a long term plan. We arenāt rebuilding aggressively but we certainly havenāt been making win now moves since the Gresham / McKay signings.
What weāre seeing is Essendon continuing to wheel out mature sides in search of results at the expense of development. (And yes, injuries)
The last two seasons we have been wheeling out mature sides?
Letās be clear here:
a) all the evidence is that the club hasnāt been rebuilding
b) the club itself, and players (such as Caldwell) havenāt been saying theyāre rebuilding.
We have one of the youngest lists in the league.
Then fill the team with top ups
No club has removed 15 players in one go
Itās time.
Will never happen far too many be filling the team up with junk picks
Are you accusing me of being conservative?!! ![]()
