List build - where are we? Where are we going next (Part 1)

100% - If we delisted everyone after 1 year in the 2’s, we wouldn’t have the depth we have today. People were calling for D Clarke to be dropped as recently as last year. I think the club sees Jok as a player with the height and athletic ability to play a pure winger role for us. We don’t have anyone currently to play that role, so we work around it with what we do have, but if we did, it would be valuable.

I see him as a 22yo guy, who’s not really close to a game, whose body has broken down last year and this year.

That may be so, but i’d still be a little surprised if they delist him.

He’s not first in the cannon, or even 2nd, but that’s more about others than him.

If it’s a choice between Mutch or him??

hmm…that’s a tough one. I’d probably keep Mutch. But I think both of them are less than 50% chances to make it.
There are going to be some tough choices this year. There aren’t many sure things to go off the list (I had Hartley as a sure delisting a week ago, but not so sure now) With Draper almost certain to be promoted, there won’t be many picks available for us in the draft, so we might be a bit harsher on 1 or 2 guys than we’ve been in recent years.

This Hurley talk is ridiculous.

If we want to be a top 4 contender, an elite defender like him is absolutely critical to keep.

Last year? I have no idea, but seems strange he got onto an AFL list if he was injured a lot.

People do remember that after the preseason the coaches chose Mutch to play ahead of Parish and Clark? It would seem a pretty big reversal to go from that to cutting him when he’s been injured most of the year.

Nobody is saying to push him. What we’re saying is there are rumours that GC are sniffing and that he’s considering it.

Hurley is replaceable. His AA form is well behind him. For a distributor, he can’t kick with any accuracy. Francis will be way better once he builds a tank.

I am over Hurley’s down the line kicks because he can’t hit a target beyond 30m.

Yeah I don’t reckon he is an “Elite Defender” any more, that’s in the past. If someone is willing to cough up, we would be mad to not consider it.

Loyalty in AFL has gone now.

So Hurley is the new Myers. Geez we are a harsh bunch sometimes.

I haven’t heard a single word of the “and he’s considering it” bit.

Very possible that he’d have a similar response to the idea of being traded as Hooker did.

You missed the first part of the post which was IF……………………………………….and I hope he is a one team player until he retires.

Even Myers recognised his time was up. Hurley has time to go (subject to injuries), but is playing the wrong role. Accountable / beast mode defender, or Laverde style forward role. He is not a distributor / “swingman”.

He’s definitely not a forward

Agreed. Anyone who still thinks Hurley is a forward should be banned for stupidity.
Isn’t Hurley even on record as saying he’s a hopeless forward?

At the SANFL yesterday I was reliably told we are one of 4 clubs who have enquired about SPP.

How did you react to that Aceman? I’m guessing you didn’t take it well
