still Collo?

Hampden League Granny played late this arvo.

North Warrnambool, coached by Nathan Vardy and with Michael Barlow in the guts, won by 7 odd goals for their first flag after 5 failed attempts. They lost to South Warrnambool the last 2 years.

Draft prospect, Charlie McKinnon, kicked 4.

Before South’s wins, Koroit won 7 in a row.

Well it has been a while. Still umpiring heaven forbid but 2026 will be my last.

Currently on 477 games so I think people can guess what the aim is.

But retirement looms. And going out whilst I am still pretty good physically.

Can you get the 23 games in one season ? Must be some kind of record.

Easy. When you take into account finals and umpiring matches in bye rounds for state footy and even doubling up. Did 25 games on the season just passed.

Wow 3 years since you posted. Glad to hear the milestone is in reach!

Indeed.

Coaching umpires could be in the offing in the next few years too.

Travis Cloke will line up for Yarra Glen when not on Chargers duty.

Kicked 25 last weekend.

Anyway . . .
Bit of a farce this weekend in the EFL with Doncaster, in their first season back after being in recess, unable to field a senior side due to not having enough available players to stay under the 46 points cap. Despite this, the ressies game will still go ahead.

That’s happening with Dennington in the Warrnambool District comp. First 4 games, total losses over 1100 points.

This week, ones are forfeiting, but twos are playing. They’ve used 46 players, but just repeated injuries.

Allansford and Old Collegians have been through this in recent years but Allansford are now one of the top three. East Warrnambool have just folded.

Country footy is on it’s knees in various places across Australia and the arrogant fark brains at AFL are ignorant or don’t care. Some teams in WA struggling for numbers due to the cost of registration ffs.

insecure employment is, by far, the most limiting factor in participation in adult amateur sport because of the risk of impact on livelihood. ten times more so for contact sports.

regional clubs folding are almost always an direct result of economic downturn in an area.

other than employing all amateur players full time, there isn’t anything the afl can practically do to prevent this.

Bullshit. AFL could do heaps more, especially for the remoter country leagues and isolated areas.

Disagree on the economic downturn. More of an impact is changing/aging demographics and less labour required with technology advances.

Spit balling here how the AFL could help:

-ensure there is a pool of umpires and coaches that enable players and games to be well ran
-provide better tools and resources to help club administrators. PlayHQ is a nightmare.

  • Using the AFL brand power to have direct sponsorship dollars going to country footy so individual clubs aren’t forced to chase dollars themselves.
  • Subsidised food and alcohol so clubs make a bigger margin on the products they sell
  • Simplification of player points and salary cap for ease and greater transparency

Just remember the AFL wouldn’t have to do all this stuff if it wasn’t wearing 3 hats. It’s the national league, the game administrators and also the games governing body/rule setter. Compare this to to English football where you have the EPL (National league), the FA (game administration in England) and FIFA (governing body)

well thought out contribution that would alleviate burden on volunteers

but none of those address the primary issue many clubs face - having enough players to fill a team

How can the AFL afford that when they’re spending all their efforts in getting games played in India?
