Excellent show once again mate! I do chuckle sometimes at how long it takes Grant to ask a question, but I love his enthusiasm :joy:

I can hear it in Cal’s voice that he knows we are in the hunt for a flag this year, stop trying to hide it big fella.

Yeh, Nah. Cal has sensed an overwhelming sensation of expectation of greatness among the Bomber faithful and he sees it as a good thing to dampen that down somewhat, No, a lot !

Is it better to moderate our expectations, so we are not surprised when Geelong strangles our forward line in round 1? Or is it better for Bomber fans to enjoy a preseason of unparalleled “belief” until they are hit by a calamity when Geelong prevails?

Can i assume Cal is a Bombers fan?

He was the Essendon staff football writer for years.

Dunno….

the Lav stuff is mind blowing. What had our coaches been doing over the last 5 years…

Can you summarise it here?

They were basically talking about how great it was to see Lav have such a breakout year when it seemed like he was gone for all money. Ended up talking about how Ken Fletcher had been trying to convince the coaches to play him down back, because he was great down there as a junior. When we finally did it, he looked like a star etc.

Yeah sounded like ken and lav had been suggesting it for years and had been getting blown off. Then, with his career on its last legs, they finally did it and were celebrated as geniuses

parish to midfield anyone?

I just don’t get Grants logic at all.

He thinks we should be getting games into kids (Cox, Ham, Baldwin) and they shouldn’t be dropped, but others (Hobbs & Durham) need to prove themselves in the VFL before they get their chance.

Why do some kids not have to prove themselves in the VFL, but others do?

I am the same. Many of the top 10 picks will play round 1. Grant is heavy on earning your spot (which i get) but it goes both ways for me. When you draft high end talent… many coaches will want them in their system asap.

Yes, but they have to learn that system and be reasonably proficient at executing their role within the system. Some young players are better at being educated than others and can quickly make the transition to AFL football. Others need longer.

Agreed. Otherwise your going back to a hierarchy, where reputation is more important than picking the best team to win.

We’ve been there and we’ve seen what kind of culture that creates.

Hobbs is every bit the equal of Daicos and Rachelle. Look at what they have done this round.

We don’t have a system!

Enjoyed the discussion.
Also agree that Cox hasn’t really earned the walk up start he appears to have.
Suppose my question would be, if Martin can impact straight away…would we have equal bravery to give Tex a crack early in the year?
