Lunchtime Catch Up Podcast- Bombers v Cats match review pod out now

We have one but it is terrible and not mimicked by the top teams.

I almost choked on my lunch when Grant said Brayden Ham should be in the side over Ben Hobbs.

How can he be so adamant about not playing first round draft picks without VFL when Rachele, Daicos, JHF and Martin all had significant impact.

If they’re good enough, they play. End of story. No ā€œkicking a million goals in the VFLā€.

Crazy.

Hobbs could come in at the expense of Ham and play great and have 25 touches but Grant would still not concede he was wrong lol

But on one hand Grant is talking like we are a top 4 side who, where we expect players bang down the door in the VFL (forgetting the fact that it’s round 1 and nobody has exposed form)…… but also we should be getting games into kids regardless of performance.

So which is it??? are we getting games into kids at the cost of team performance, or picking the best side to win?

Geez Grant was tough to listen to. So far off the mark about bringing Hobbs in / dropping Ham. My ears hurt. Gotta love the passion though.

Scott you are 100% on the money with this one.

A system is based on moving the ball to the forwards to score- key forwards are pivotal.

Ham is not a small forward, neither is Hobbs. By all means, bring in Hobbs if he’s ready, but play him in the midfield

I loved the bit where Grant was justifying why Martin shouldn’t be in the side, by saying ā€œhe’s a kid who’s only been playing WAFL……. He needs to prove himself in the VFL before getting a game.ā€

:laughing::laughing:

Does he realise WAFL is the same level (probably higher) standard to the VFL?!?!

I’m interested to see if anyone this week, thinks Parish & Merrett had decent games……. I know AFL.com.au had them as our best players.

Where da POD at???

Here it is!!! On Sunday we recorded a Patreon show that had Scooter & Grant have a passionate debate. It was raw emotions. For the first time we decided to share this Patreon show to the main public audience. It has been by far our most talked about show

Man I really hope Hobbs plays now
Grant is gonna blow a gasket. Old fuddy duddy thinking you can’t pick talented kids lol. He’d be the first bloke surprised if Hobbs plays well just as Martin did.

They were garbage on the weekend. I don’t care how many possessions they had.
They will be much better this week I’m sure.

Love your work Scooter. Have to say I agreed with your points over Grants although i do understand the point he is trying to make with having young players needing to earn their spot in the team by playing good consistent footy in the magoos

Cheers. Yes I know Grant is very much an earn your spot. I think i just queried guys who have 20-30 games into them that are actually not earning to keep their spot. Is just one game into 2022 i do realise however

Generally I think that’s fine, if your deep into the season.

But nobody has exposed form in Round 2, so all you can do is pick the best players to win the game…. Based on training and practice games.

Grant has some staggering views at times.
Love the pod and his passion but gee.

One thing I’ll say about Durham is that I think his performances last year were, much like Cox’s, a bit overblown compared to what he actually did, a kind of blue-collared glasses if you will. Cox averaged 1 more kick, Durham 2 more handballs, Cox half a goal more, Durham half a mark, Cox 1 more tackle, Durham half a clearance. Cox’s 15 on the weekend, Durham beat twice last year.

There’s a case to be made for dropping one for the other, but statistically it’s a line ball decision.
