Mark Johnson should have been AA back pocket. Proven by towling up Farmer in the Granny. Probably wasn’t even in the squad.

Buckley leads a team finishing 15 and 16 and he’s the VC both years…

Old mate might want to start passing some courses.

Edit: I know. However, given they’re full MAGA now nothing would shock me.

I think it’s a bit like ammo’s footy.
Not much cash in the bank, but plenty of other perks.

Thanks. I see top NFL punters can get up to USD$ 4m, while the base rate is $1m, while in the college level, $50k is typical. They are still young, I guess, and a chanace to get top coin with a top team but they would clearly be much better off doing a FIFO job in WA, bring home $250k+ driving a big truck than where they are at right now.

I agree, forget university and that American lifestyle and come back to WA and FIFO on 12/4 roster doing 14 hour days living onsite in a bloody mining camp.

That’s such a great plan! I’m not sure why tthey haven’t thought of that…

Sounds like more fun punting.

People seem to forget when you are on a mining camp, you are Paid, Well Fed and Housed for the time that you are on site, you litterally have Zero expenses. Cant really say the same about university now can you. As far as I’m aware you have to pay for all of that and more. Sure some things are subsidised but still. Oh yeah and the best part about Uni is, when you finish, you finish with a massive debt.

Can easily see why more young people are going FIFO over Uni.

Very real problem with FIFO is the golden handcuffs. Earning $250k so take out a massive mortgage. Relationship breaks down because away so much. Can’t quit the job because there isn’t enough money back home to pay the mortgage. Divorce. Lose half. Keep working FIFO to make up for what was lost. Meet someone new. Relationship breaks down because away so much…

Repeat until retirement age.

Yes, but that is also prevellent in other industries as well, eg. Healthcare, Emergency Services and Hospitality etc. At least FIFO is actively trying to change with better worklife balance rosters etc. 2/2 or 8/6 so you have the opportunity to spend more time with the family/kids etc to help keep the relationship together. At the end of the day relationships also fall apart in other industries due to stresses related to that particular industry.

Caution. This post contains unsolicited advice.

A girl mining truck driver I spoke to on a Pilbara mine site said she and her husband both worked on the same site and had saved enough in 2 years to buy a house outright. They intended to return to city jobs once they met that goal.

Mortgage debt is a true millstone around your neck, that can persist all your working life if you want to climb the property ladder. Add credit card debt and you are a farking slave. Those financial strains often cause marriage breakdown as well.

I own my own house and I am a part owner in the very same banks who part owned me in my earlier years. The feeling of liberation you get when your wealth is equal to your net worth is great. Cash flow ebb can be stressful if you are self employed.

While education is very important, getting a university degree is not necessarily an instant passport to a good job, or any job at all . Some careers will suffer badly under AI, just make sure your degree qualifies you for an occupation which is in demand.
I hope Mason and Max do well financially out of their college football adventure.

I’ll try again, maybe Mason and Max love doing what they are doing and don’t see living on a mine site for 2 years, which is extremely isolating, exhausting and in my experience quite toxic as a high priority making hard earned dollars. Just to buy a house at 24.

Its certainly not for everyone and its not as simple as applying and getting 250k a year for driving a large truck down a hole either.

Maybe Mason and Max are enjoying the US lifestyle and enjoy being average punters.

Why does everything have to revolve around other people ideals and opinions.

■■■■■■■ weird take .

I can just see it now. Max and / or Mason make their way back to their respective dorms after yet another big party on campus. Being football players, they both had to deal with substantially more female attention than the average ginger is used to. Maybe even one of them has a female companion. Maybe two companions.

As he gets back to his dorm, his female companion quickly excuses herself to the bathroom, and while he waits, he has a quick scroll through TikTok and up pops a short video by a FIFO worker in WA.

Max / Mason pauses. A small tear runs down his cheek as he thinks to himself “I really wish I was in the middle of a desert in WA working a 12 hour shift right now…”

Yeh. Money is not everything. But what do 20 something kids complain about most?

How its impossible to buy a house in a city these days.

Sure, but there is a level of rarity of meaty news about the boys. TBH I was shocked by the low level of pay for so few years in college playing gridiron. 4 year bachelors degree, 2 years masters, and maybe a conversion to phD for 3 years…takes you to 28 I guess.

Darren Bennett and Ben Graham blazed the trail in the NFL, but quite a few have fallen by the wayside . Jeez it’s a tough gig.

It’s not really about the pay though. It’s about the life experience while enjoying your student years, not about trying to find a pathway to the NFL.
