Matt Rosa - the new list boss man

Didn’t he sign them to the cheap contacts that they now want to get out of?

Contracts.
And they weren’t cheap. Laverde and Stringer in particular got the big payouts in their first year, with smaller amounts thereafter. Take the sum total of their receipts over their contracted years and divide it by the number of years to get their annual average - you’ll find that they got paid very well.

And whether Dodo was good or bad at his job is immaterial. He’d been there too long, and the Club needed a clean break from the past - which was way too long happening. Thanks to Matt Rosa, Brad Scott and David Barham we’ve finally got a clean break from the past. Let’s see in the next two years what they make of it…

Yep, i didn’t rate us in 13 even when we were winning,
a bit like this year, but so many more emotions based wins . It’s the hird fraternity that like to think it was taken away from him and that he was a master coach. We were fading out in seasons back then too, didn’t we not win in June for years?

Maybe if dodoro didn’t recruit skinny half backs we wouldnt have had to bulk them up and therefore no saga.

I was just making the point that the contract that gave us Stringer for 400k next year (which the media seems to think is a great deal for us), were set up under Dodoro, so it seemed unlikely that he’d be desperate to sign up up for multi year big money like some were suggesting.

The rest I don’t care about, we definitely needed change, but far out this place is obsessed.

Correct. There can be as many rounds of the draft as there needs to be, for any team to fulfill the number of picks they require.
Essentially you could have a round 5, 6, 7 and 8 pick if you needed to. And given everyone else passes, they’ll probs be consecutive.
Now you may or may not want to do that. But there is no danger of “running out of picks”, so to speak.

It’s not what he picked,it’s what he could of picked that he didn’t.The talent he missed.Go back through the years and look at what we could of had but didn’t pick them. His job is to build a team that wins a premierships

Cgates.

Hindsight is 20/20.

This has been done to death in both Dodoro and List management threads.

Understand ,but its his job.Whoever we had through the 80s and 90s could pick talent we had ■■■■ loads talent coming through. He took over and well

I think this way of thinking is silly.

We should replace Lav, Shiel, Goldy, Kelly, Heppell with kids who are worse now but could grow to be better in 2/3 years time.

Waiting for someone to take their spot has got us in this mid table wilderness we find ourselves in.

If Hayes, Bryan, Tsatas, Roberts etc played every week instead of the reliable senior body who has a clear ceiling (mid table) we probably have a top 3-5 pick right now, we’d also have more experienced kids.

Very different times in how you picked talent back then compared to now though. Not a fair way to judge anything.

or maybe we could be playing exciting footy and taking part in finals.

Yeah…
But if we repeat it in this thread we come out with a different outcome…

FFS, I did NOT suggest “waiting for someone to take their spot.” What I believe our recruiters should be doing is not “waiting” but getting off their arses and actively searching for and finding new talent which is both highly skilled and tough as teak. Our current parlous state is due in large measure to Dodoro’s penchant for respectable middle class mummy’s boys. Laverde is that rare tough customer at Essendon. He has a year to run on his contract. Let him work it out - because at present we need him - until Rosa comes good with his replacement, whom he must find before the end of 2025.

Brian Donohoe and Noel Judkins had the most influence in the 80/90’s. They picked players who were competitors as a priority.

Brian Donohoe in particular was the architect of Sheed’s success.

What do you reckon Dodoro said when people asked him to move on ?

Yes he was. Name dropping (excuse me!!)… I’m glad to say I have good contact with Brian to this day. He’s fit and well and still very keen on the Bombers. Although a bit frustrated like us all!
