Everything is going to be tickety boo….A Dodoro was the whole problem, I have read, and now he has gone.

Dane Swan, Chris Tarrant, Glenn Archer, Wayne Carey, Dustin Martin without thinking too hard about it stand out as players who would not have met the ‘character’ requirements Dodoro likely valued. But then, if I could even remember who they are, there would be a heap of kids who were pretty rough and ready but were given a chance and then blew it all up in the first year or two (Lawrence Angwin is one I can recall)

I mean Chris Tarrant was a good player and all, but my word, he isn’t even close to the same class as the rest of that list.

It’s a list of four AFL/VFL HoF, one will be a legend (Martin) and one other certainly would if not for being a complete deadshit off the field (Carey), plus Chris Tarrant.

Yeah I only included him because I had a mate who apparently got into a punch on with him early in Tarrant’s career at Collingwood. Loved to drink, smoke choof, and I’m pretty sure came very close to giving it all away only a couple of years into his career

There is a big difference between a tough background and an attitude and a chip on your shoulder with something to prove. We want the latter. In trying to avoid the former as a drafting strategy we have really ensured we don’t get the latter.

Obviously time will give a better indication of the success of the draft picks but I certainly like the way Matt has managed the hand he was dealt in his first draft for us.

We started with 2 picks a first and second round pick.

We essentially created an additional second this year plus an additional first and second next year. 3 picks created out of thin air.

That’s exceeded my expectations.

He actually recognised that it was a super strong draft and that teams would be willing to overpay, and he just took advantage of it.

Took advantage of other clubs’ willingness to overpay to get into the strong draft but also brought in enough picks for us to take good advantage of it too, while also increasing our hand next year.
