Probably depends if it the game is fully ticketed or has some GA. Unusual for MCG games other than Anzac Day to have zero GA, but others would know better than me.
If it is fully reserved you should be able to get two reserved seats next to each other, with yours being a bit cheaper as an upgrade from the GA membership ticket.
I think there were 4 fully ticketed games this year. I had a GA membership which is increasingly becoming less useful; I don’t like having to pay for a seat on top of the cost of the membership when I’m probably going to stand behind the goals or sit in the bar when we go to water and give up.
Just received an email about it being a milestone year, and promising more items:
“Your core member items, including a commemorative wallet, personalised 2025 membership card and bumper stickers are also en-route to your mailbox. Please note, as your items are personalised this can take up to a month to arrive.”
Since Victoria finally got around to supplying digital drivers licences, I no longer use a wallet. I’d still prefer a hat or scarf, or both, but I guess at least it’s an acknowledgement. The fact that they already sent my membership card, but now they’re sending a ‘personalised’ membership card, makes me think this may be a response to negative feedback from milestone members, rather than a planned rollout.
Nah.
It takes a lot longer to organise a supply chain of personalised gifts for however many members are to get it.
In the past, I’ve gotten the standard stuff (stickers, pins, etc) with my membership card in November / December, then got another pack later on in January sometime. Maybe it was February.
One of the times, I received an updated membership cards with the second package even though there was no change to seating.
I reckon it reflects the earlier rollover of sales, I just can’t understand any reason why membership sales would be +4,000 compared to same time year ago. I’m sure it will revert to expected flat / decline as time progresses.
Edit: I found this post from 17/01/24 when the club included the AFL membership renewals (late compared to normal). I reckon this ~57K is the true comparison but we will need to wait until mid next month to compare figures.
Remember when we used to get a glossy magazine a couple of times a year? They used to look after us then, it felt like members were valued then, they couldn’t give two farks now. I rang to cancel my auto renewal for next year and all I got for 22 years was……. Ok, click
Remember when we didn’t have the internet and twitter and Instagram and YouTube and email.
We get way, way more information (and more current) about the club and players than we did in years gone by. Anyone who thinks differently is either just remembering through nostalgic tinted glasses or is drinking the ‘bag everything the club does’ cool-aide.
And hardly any organisation uses ‘trade’ style magazine as a means of communication these days…well not unless their marketing department is still in the 1990s.
