Mid Season Draft 2025

I doubt EFC will draft three players because you have to balance list spots. Once the LTI return to the list at the end of the year then you are carrying too many places. I expect EFC to choose one or possibly two players.

If we take 3 on 6 months contracts, then it isn’t an issue.

Yaco has a reasonable point.
It doesn’t matter if they are 6 month contracts. You are still picking 3 guys you hope to have a long term future with the club. So it does mean an additional 3 to delist at end of year.

For me, i see that as a goood problem. That’s 3 additional cracks at finding a player, and if they end up looking better than players already on our list, yhen that should be a win. But I doubt the club would do it.

Has Crossley still got the killer mo he had a few years back? If so, I’d take him. Would be the best mo in the game. If not, I’d draft him on the proviso he grows it back.

If they don’t draft 3 players it won’t be because of balance it will be all about the $$$

I reakon Nyko would be a great selection. Instant improvement in our forwardine.

I really don’t see a benefit of drafting another small forward, we are going to be jam packed full of them in three years time. Unless you are planning on delisting Guify, Gresham or Davey at the end of the year.

Take a ruckman. Old Gold will likely hang his boots up at the end of the year so use the mid season draft to try and grab one that you can get a head start on.

my preference would be

Outside hard running mid with good skills
lock down small defender with good skills
Ruck - either best available development wise, or if not just to help us see out the year 6 month deal.

Nyko is typically a half back flank or winger, again very similar to Archie Roberts.

Squad of younger mid-season draft candidates up against Vic Metro on Saturday. El Achkar and Sweid both named in the Metro squad.

Agreed

I don’t really know what this is based on. What big swings did Dodoro take with high picks?

What is this based on? They kept Shiel, they offered Kelly a new deal. Stringer was moved on for peanuts and Hind delisted not due to list considerations, but due to off-field activities.

The only player they moved on was Heppell, and he was very cooked. Every reason to think he’d have ‘retired’ last year regardless of who was doing recruiting.

It has really frustrated me that Essendon hasn’t used its financial muscle and therefore every single list spot. Not all MSD picks used. Not all Cat B slots used. I have no idea if this is a decision by the bean-counters, the list manager or the coaches. But I’d like to see it changed. Extra swings, even unlikely ones are extra shots to get players.

It did follow the COVID hit 2020 season. Maybe with no COVID all of those players picked go in the main draft. Maybe even high up.

Part of the argument is extra use of resources - of coaches training player that may not make it, when could be spent on other players. I’m all for using up all our picks though.

would enquire about signing Fletchers boy as Cat B.

Sure. But the counter argument is you can hire more coaches. It is why I said I have no idea if that was a bean-counter, coaches or list management decision.

It implies to me, we aren’t really as strong financially as Blitz likes to think.

Tell us about them, please?

(well, not Hunter of course!)

Bean counters don’t like spending over the soft cap for coaches.
Part of reason Goldy is on the list.

That would be near the dream. The other option is switch one with a tall forward (Hunter?).
