I disagree. A player who has been overlooked many times is probably open to accepting any chance he can get.

Plenty of ex listed players have nominated 6 month contracts. Many of them just want a chance.
Last year every player except for a handful nominated 6-month contracts for the MSD.
A 25yo who has been out of the AFL system for 6 years isn’t going to be dictating contract terms!

McCarthy, 25yo, 189cm, Richmond VFL, ready to go, Will likely play HB and Wing at AFL, strong runner and uses it both ways, can kick reasonably well and can tackle.
Keogh, similar age, ready to go, 200cm ruck, competitive, good at the contested stuff. Don’t know much about his skills on the outside and up forward, but he’d bring some presence and effort at stoppages and at training.
McMahon, 22yo from Carlton VFL, 198cm KPF can swing back, high marking type, VFL team of the year in '24, has played two games this year and kicked 4 in each.
Hunter we know, natural FF well balanced game, it’s just his body that is the issue.
Tom Evans, 180cm, 19yo from Bendigo, has become a prolific HB accumulator, he is a good runner carries the ball well and sets up play well with his kicking, has some nice punchy kicking. I think he has played forward and midfield in the past and he looks like a good contested ball winner which might help him defensively but that’s not his role in the team.
Evans is the one I think we should target with our 1st pick (I’m assuming McCarthy will go in the first few picks). He’d be another that has a connection to Harley.

Not only is it more swings but it also strengthens our VFL team which helps with development of our players.
The stronger the VFL, the better they play collectively and the more competition to be better.
Fill the spots, delist who needs to be culled at the end of the season.

I’d take a ruck. Jury out on the recovery of Bryan and Draper. Who knows what can happen with their rehabs moving into 2026. Draper may move on anyway!? Goldy likely to retire at seasons end.
What was looking like a potential strength with the Draper Bryan combo all of a sudden becomes our greatest unknown.
