Mid Season Draft 2025

He is my pick and eligible for the ND this year as an overager.

Nup. Had chances.

I reakon his traits are better suited for small forward. I think he’s been played out of position for a while.

Umm yes…he’s a gun. Explosive midfielder we’re looking for.

Everyone is always eligible for the national draft if they’re old enough.

Considering we’re likely to have 3 picks, the big question should be what type of player do we take first.

Need or talent? Hopefully we take whoever we think might impact long term over short term list holes.

I would go 2 for talent, 1 for need, ruck coverage.

It means he went often high risk with 1st and 2nd round tall projects or HBFs to mids, loved a good stick he thought would develop I think. I always felt that his approach to talls drafting was very high risk and rarely worked out particularly.

when is the MSD?

Odd are we’ll have another LTI before the mid season draft.
I think we’ll have a list of 10 to 12 players and look to take 2 of them.

I think the talent coming out of the mid-season draft has reduced since the covid affected years (2020 to 2022) so I’m not expecting more than 3 or 4 players max getting games within the first 12 months of being drafted.
The majority of drafted players get 0 games. If you’re lucky, you get a handful of games. The rest become established players.

I’d try something a little bit different. Apart from one or two players, a six month contract is more likely. So I’d be trying to fill gaps in our depth (at both AFL and VFL level). So that to me is a small defender (or a medium defender) and a ruckman. I would consider another midfielder (preferably more outside running than inside) but it’s not essential. I’d be against another small forward.
The aim is to get them into the VFL program and if they are good enough, they get an AFL game. But predominantly, I’d be aiming to increase the depth at VFL level and see if that team can actually make finals. I think that experience would be good for the younger players on the list. Even if the mid-season draft picks don’t make it onto the list past their six month contract, they may be interested in joining the VFL program or even go for an SSP spot through the pre-season.

Jaiden Hunter with another 5 goals today. Takes him to 13 in four WAFL seniors matches and 27 if you include three additional preseason games.

I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing him back …

Might have let him go too early but it was the right thing to do with the injuries.
Wouldn’t be getting a game ahead of jones though

If we have three picks just get him for 6 months. What do we have to lose?
