Too incompetent or lazy more like it
The AFL is just a bunch of sports administrative cowboys.
They are useless, lazy, and believe they’re king ■■■■.
They can’t afford to do it (without taking paycuts within the administration).
AFLW isn’t exactly a money making machine yet. And probably;y won’t be for quite some time. VFL barely draws a crowd. Both comps don’t even collect enough revenue from game receipts to cover the players and staff on the field, let alone stadium rent, etc. Gold Coast and GWS hasn’t bared enough fruit but is looking positive from a smaller local league point of view. AFL clubs as it is function off the back of volunteer work (outside of typical office duties) before it gets to a spot where staff can actually be paid.
Here in Victoria, some players prefer playing at levels below VFL because the pay is better and they have way more fun playing midfield and dominating in those competitions.
Unfortunately, lower level leagues just have to live with the lack of funding in its current state. It is what it is. And will continue to be that way. Regardless of whether there is a mid season draft or another way.
I think we should give up on trying to find a few bloked in their mid/late 20’s just to plug holes.
And we have a look at some 19-20 year olds who could be pushing for the ND. It’s a good chance to have a look at a few players, and continue on with the rebuild imo.
We beat 2 teams that were in ginal last year.
How aabout we take it 1 week at a time
We put in the effort against the Bull frogs, who knows.
Why tank? Have a loser mentality like norf.
They find it easy to win don’t they.
Dees are awful so we have a top 3 pick anyways.
Lets just see how far we can go. Give it a chance.
That’s an interesting way to say they can afford it.
Ok, ok, there’s a compromise here.
Don’t strip the second tier…
UNLESS that club is affiliated to an AFL team. Bonus if that club happens to be Box Hill or Farkcarlton or Richmond (rich hunting ground for us).
Thanks Nino
No need for compromise, clubs should take anyone willing to be drafted, no compensation.
Of course. Any business doesn’t have to make any of its staff redundant when there’s an economic downturn. The company bosses and upper management can take pay cuts and save staff from redundancy. They can take enough paycuts to save all jobs.
It doesn’t happen though. It is what it is.

We need to use every possible leaver available to us to build a successful list. I’d now argue with strong resourcing of our recruiting dept which we haven’t had until now, successful clubs wouldn’t view the MSD as a top up / hole plugging opportunity. Like summer rookie drafts, it’s a lever to add elite talent to build a list. Day-Wicks & Martin are summer rookies!
D’Ambrosia, Saad, Durham, Newcombe… These are near A grade elite talents.
If we’re scouring the state leagues with additional recruiters, use them and find 2-3 elite prospects. Don’t just find a big thug / brut who you can drop into a lineup to fill a need for 10 games to finish 10th!
Ok, I’m starting to get very concerned about how much I’m agreeing with Maplestone the last few days.
This is 100% spot on.
This has nothing to do with economic downturns or redundancys.
Oh okay. Then it has to do with rich people giving up the money they are currently on. Which people generally are less likely to do. Not in a substantial way anyway.
I’d be very surprised if we took all four picks.
It just makes list management a nightmare at the end of the year.

Hunter the only one that didn’t play, and he still got 18 months.
How many of them were the same year. Extending one MSD player is a lot different than having 3 locked in for 18 months otherwise you are bound to delist at least 6 or 7 others off your list.
So draft no more than one on a longer term if we think there is one we really like and then any others only if 6 month term only.
Extra players to dump at season’s end.
I don’t see there are that many players to delist at the end of the season…Goldstein, Laverde, maybe Lual, maybe Shiel, maybe Guelfi (not me unless he wants a trade), maybe Davey
I know there are a few who were be dirty at having to restrict sackings, oh, 30, but say 3 MSD picks look promising and we want to keep them. Just extra strain at season’s end.
It would involve the AFL investing in SA and WA football to replace the SANFL and WAFL in this hypothetical where they cease to exist. Seeing as they already seem keen to spread the game in NSW and QLD despite the cost I think it’s very likely they would do the same in SA and WA which already has the interest in Aussie rules.
If there’s 4 players available at our picks that we think could make it in the AFL then we take them all. If not then we don’t.
I was just joking… farkcarlton, farkthecarltonvflteam and fark the horse they rode in on.
