Mid Season Draft 2025

Scooter said we were interested in Crossley. I think we will definetly take at least 1 ruck or ruck/forward.

Couldn’t be less excited about picking Crossley. Seems so pointless.

The SEN discussion this is from sounded much more like a ‘these players are playing well in the VFL’ and would meet Essendon’s needs rather than genuine intel about who Essendon has interest in drafting.

Given the quality of Werribee recruits in recent years I’m not entirely against Sam Conway.

They all seem to adapt to AFL pretty much straight away.

Yep, screams like a bloke we pick and comes in for 1 or 2 games never to be seen again as let’s be honest Brad will pick Goldy nearly every week so Crossley plays twos and cuts Vigo’s time in the ruck.

We arent making finals…and have holes all over the place, just pick the best 4 picks available woth our picks and hopefully one of them comes good.

Maybe this is what was meant when they said Hird was coming back to Essendon.

Need to get someone in as cover though, if Goldy breaks down next week, can’t expect Vigo to ruck by himself for the rest of the season.

There are a couple of ruck/forwards that I think we should look at. We absolutely need a ruck; it would be borderline negligent if we didn’t recruit one.

But then what if the guy we draft in the MSD breaks down? And the Vigo breaks down? We should draft four rucks just to be sure.

I’m not excited at all, but it’s necessary.

Vigo is not ready for any more than a cameo to give him a taste, and Goldy can’t ruck the next 14 (?) games in a row.

We have 5 spots, it’s not a waste to get a Crossley/equivalent who can be our Goldy next year.

No. Let’s just get cover for 65 year old Goldstein.

I hope we pick four of the nastiest individuals out there that can play a bit. We are deadset marshmallows

It seems only a matter of time before Archer May gets his opportunity on an AFL list. He had his supporters after a solid top age season for the Dragons in 2023, and then had his name mentioned as a possible pick up in last years MSD. This year, after a hot start with Subiaco in the WAFL he’s again firmly in the MSD frame and seems likely to be taken.

Here we look back to last year at probably his best game playing for Richmond in the VFL tallying 17 disposals, 11 marks and 4 goals. Not the quickest key forward but a big powerful frame and soft hands, active and competitive, strong forward craft to position himself ahead of the play or find space inside the 50.

why? We are not playing finals. It should be about player development. If Goldy goes down that leaves Vigo and 2MP. If they go down we can ruck an undersized key forward/back. Recruiting players who are not part of the future is a backward step.

Its been mentioned before that this has knock on effects. We need Gerreyn to be developing his forward craft. If we run out of rucks and are forced to play others like Gerreyn out of position in the VFL then that’s less than ideal.

Unfortunately those knock on effects work both ways though.
We bring in someone like Crossley, and all of a sudden Vigo is relegated to backup again.

Downsides either way, but still, I can’t see us not bringing in a ruck.

If they thought Vigo was capable of rucking in the AFL he would be doing it now ahead of Goldstein.

There is no harm getting mature age cover for 6 months.

Its not pointless we need a mature ruck we cant rely on Goldy for the whole year and Vigo is not ready.

By this time next year we have Draper and Bryan back where Croasley will become a break in case of emergency
