Mid Season Draft 2025

The club can’t offer it.
What bit of that don’t you understand?
When Crossley nominated for the MSD, HE and HIM alone nominated the terms of his contract.
Clubs can then choose to draft him or not

I think so too he would be happy with 6 months

If he nominates 18 months are you still taking him?

No.

McCarthy is another of the Richmond VFL linked players being discussed as potential mid season draft picks. He’s a versatile type who can play a number of roles. In this game he was deployed primarily as a medium sized defender, working hard both ways and being effective at disrupting opposition moves as well as getting involved in attacking ball movement.

I really like the look of this kid.

Being Dermie’s stepson is just an added bonus though

Really hope we dont take crossley. Watching him get belted by bryan and draper in the pre season was enough. Plodder

Having a solid ruck would help the development of others (mainly our younger mids) in the senior side IMO.

Like. But only concern is a biggie.
KICKING?

Spot on, from memory he had one sublime tap that resulted in a goal and a couple of other ‘moments’, but Bryan smashed him.

Unfortunately reckon with all the publicity he has been getting lately either north or west coast will grab him with pick 1 or 2.
If Carlton don’t take McMahon we should grab him with our first pick. Then grab a tall defender with pick 2. , a ruckman with pick 3. And a speedster with last pick?( Would Gout Gout be interested in a 6 month contract???

Gerryne can play forward in the vfl if we want no matter who goes down. If we need a ruck in the vfl team can’t we just call up someone from the edfl or elsewhere?

If Brad wanted to stop the pressure of the James Hird factor he should recruit Tom Hird

Serious question. Is Tom Hird playing much better than he was when he was with us? Anyone watched him play recently?

Or Jeremy Finlayson taking on Port ruck duties and being more than serviceable.

Would prefer this type of out of the box thinking to back up Goldie than have Crossely holding Vigo back most weeks in VFL.

Not sure if Cox would be up to it, but would love to see him tested over the weeks Goldie gets rested.

he didn’t have the best game against us, but he was playing predominantly as a midfielder.

with us he played as a small forward then small defender. I probably liken him to aaron Heppell who developed into a good VFL player.

does he have the speed for AFL? He’s probably similar type to O’Neill who is running around in our VFL side.

Stats wise he’s had lots more better performances at port than Essendon.

After that Anzac day game (The highest red point) I was calling for Hird to debut against St Kilda.

Anzac day specialist like his dad.

Will any ruckman we pick be better than Vigo? Personally I’d just risk not picking a ruckman, if we get into strife play a mobile tall as a make shift. It’s not like we are gunning for a premiership.

I respect your draft knowledge but as a list management opinion in no way should we be drafting for VFL cover. You have extended VFL lists for that purpose.

I think that’s greatly simplifying and misrepresenting the case. I’m not suggesting that we pick someone in the MSD just to play VFL ruck. We need more cover in general in our ruck group after two season ending injuries. Goldy shouldn’t be rucking at AFL level at this point in his career, he gets run over regularly. Reasonable quality rucks are important in helping our developing mids get first use, build confidence and cohesion. Vigo isn’t ready to play AFL level in my eyes. Adding someone of reasonable quality in the MSD would help the AFL midfield group and by proxy the VFL midfield group with Goldy dropping back down, and it would allow Gerreyn to stay in the forward line.

Only responding to your suggestion that the lack of AFL listed rucks could result in Gerreyn being forced to play there at VFL level which would just not be a realistic outcome when the VFL side has access to other options beyond the AFL listed players.
