Middle East Discussion

The establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 cannot be attributed simply to British colonialism, it has had a long gestation, accelerated by the Holocaust, but going back centuries of a search for a homeland free from oppression and discrimination, including the expulsion from Iberia, pogroms. It’s given reflection in George Eliot’s book Daniel Deronda, written in 1871.
BTW, at one stage Britain was considering the option of a homeland in the Kimberlys in what is now part of Western Australia,

I don’t condone killing innocent women and children and never have. That’s the point.
What about what’s been happening to Palestinian people long before Hamas even existed?

Why bring the whataboutism?

I think its widely acknowledged both sides have done horrendous things but seeing people celebrate and even justify what Hamas did at the weekend is disgusting

There’s a distinction between the celebrations at Lakemba and the rally in support of Palestinians to the Opera House seeking a Voice to be listened to, to cut through the narrative that Palestinians deserve what they get, they are all animals,

The ones at the Oprah House screaming “■■■■ the Jews”?

Them?

They didn’t sound like that just wanted to change a narrative.

A limited few extremists highlighted in the media. It’s like condemning all soccer supporters , or all Victory supporters, as evil because of the actions of extremists.

imagine drawing a comparison between the Palestinian protest and the Voice referendum. Great job.

But I don’t see a lot of people out there condeming all Palestinians because that would be wrong.

But what you always don’t see from that “side” is condemnation of Hamas’ actions.

Don’t act like you know everything.

It was condemned by someone from the Palestine diaspora interviewed on the Drum yesterday. He is not the only one, but few of them are given the same opportunity. The ABC would consider it balance, reflecting its Charter, others condemn the ABC for bias.

And what about the Israeli civilians that celebrate Palestinian death and watch rockets fall on them as if it’s a firework display?
They don’t acknowledge what happens to Palestinians because no one is sanctioning the Israeli government for continued so-called human rights violations.

What happened on the weekend is what has been happening to Palestinian civilians at the hands of the Israeli government for 75 years.

The Palestinians do condemn violence at an international level. Where has any Israeli official ever condemned the violence their government committed?

“Judgement Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews. The Jews will hide behind the stones and the trees, and the stones and the trees will say, oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew hiding behind me — come and kill him.”

They follow this ■■■■. They condone this ■■■■.

It will never stop.

What the ■■■■?

I do know what’s happening as people around me get first-hand reports of what happens. Their families and friends are living under constant oppression carried out by the Israeli government. They deserve to live in peace.

I believe he is quoting the Koran but it has been a while since I looked at it.

So do Israelis

My understanding is that is not that simple.

Hamas forms the de facto government of the Gaza Strip since 2007, following the conflict between Hamas and Fatah in 2006.

The West Bank is ruled by a Fatah led government which is generally internationally recognised as the legitimate government of the Palestinian Authority. Gaza is ruled by a Hamas government, without reference to the Palestinian Authority government in Ramallah.

On its site the Jewish Heritage Alliance there is a picture of the Jews living as part of society during the Moors in Spain.
Some others have labelled it the Golden Age of the Jews in Spain, although this is contested between historians.
Christian Spain expelled the Jews if they would not convert.
It is only in this century that Spain has apologised and accorded the right to reside in Spain to those descendants of the expelled

See when you post something without context? This refers to the arrival of the anti-christ and specifically the Jews that follow him. We know that many Jews won’t follow him.

This is after the encounter between Prophet Jesus and the anti-christ that results in the killing of the anti-christ. Once the anti-christ is killed by Jesus, it refers to his army that remains.

It has nothing to do with the current Jews or they would not have been living in peace under Muslim rulership for centuries. In fact, there are protections under Islamic Law for Jews and Christians living under Islamic Rulership.

We’re not ignorant of Islamic rules to be just mindlessly killing Jews like the Europeans did. In fact, why did Jews seek refuge in Palestine when Europeans did? Because they knew they were safe with the Muslims. Muslims in Eastern Europe also provided Jews safety during WWII.

Jews have been mass slaughtered in the past and it wasn’t by Muslims.
