Sykes-Picot Agreement. The French British entente cordiale for trade to flourish for their private sector.
French and British intervention when Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal ( and in which Menzies wanted a role).
Any hate speech arrests in Sydney last night?
Itâs being investigated, including by the organisers who have identified some.
As Sam Lane KC would say, itâs a very legal question whether hate speech is illegal.
Aside from the dude with the Jewish flag being arrested for breaching the peace, probably not.
I think old mate was removed for his own safety more than anything. There was a link above.
Personally I think if you really want public support for your cause and to get more people to understand the plight how about not shouting âgas the jewsâ after your military arm beheads people and â â â â â â on their corpse. Not really going to do you any favours.
Your personal and family experience JayMarley may be horrific but screams of a bias. Bombastic is correct in terms of Hamas running the Gaza strip on that side and more. Follow the cash to see what Hamas really give a â â â â about and its their own leaders comfort in Qatar and zero about the people.
Here you go again with deflecting responsibility away from the oppressors.
The colonial entity that is engaging in ethnic cleansing, apartheid and genocide is to blame for said apartheid and genocide. They are in breach of international law and should be sanctioned for their actions. But of course youâre a genocide sympathiser so youâll twist the narrative to blame the victim.
Any Australian Blitzers living in Israel ** or currently visiting** would help our consular resources by registering with the Embassy in Tel Aviv, which is scrambling to identify Australians caught up in the Hamas atrocities and who are in need of consular assistance.
As ever, the poor Asians working in a country affected by conflict would account for the highest number of foreigners, easily identifiable and traced. This time itâs Thais and Filipinos.
Iâm staying out of the argument here on who are the bigger bunch of â â â â â in this conflict. Iâve been to Israel briefly and have my own experiences, which I will keep to myself at this point. However, I find this statement curious. I donât know where youâre from, Handy, or where you live, but if I - as a born and bred âAussieâ - was to move to, say, London, Iâm not going to consider myself an Englishman simply by virtue of the fact that I now live there. It takes a very long time to develop such a sense of identity, and to be accepted as such by others, if it ever happens at all. At a local level, Iâve been living living in QLD for 22 years, but having spent my first 33 years living in Melbourne, I would still consider myself Victorian (if the question was put to me). You donât just change your cultural identity at the drop of a hat!
I think if i moved their permanently id be an Australian Englishman. It would be pride in both.
I wouldnt be critical of the history of the place.
Much like Indian/Chinese/English/African Australians here.
Im welcoming to everyone who chooses to make this colonial based country home. Just dont be a hypocrite about the idea being evil.
Im third gen australian born, so ive lost any meaningful connection to my anthropological roots. And im more than cognisant on the negative effects of it without the need to have it as a lived experience.
If id instead been born overseas and chosen Australia as a destination? I certainly wouldnt criticise colonialism if I had CHOSEN it as a place to live.
Id probably be about making it a better place and trying to reconcile with anyone whose families bloodlines have suffered to allow this place to be pretty great today.
Ironically Ms Handypoint is a first gen migrant and shes a bit lets say anti voice as an example as a vehicle for doing that than I am.(although I think she is coming around)
Anyhow this is getting a touch OT(although Many pro Palestinian supporters hate anything to do with the existence of israel),but to write it off as British colonialism is ridiculous.
It IS the historical jewish homeland, Britain just came in to help the Zionist movement reestablish a homeland.
The tragedy here is the inability for Jews and Muslims(Palestinians) to live peacefully. Not the existence of Israel.
Jews like other middle eastern tribes/peoples have been shoved out of the region over the eons.
Weâre at the cusp of WW3.
7 conflicts in Europe alone, not including the Serbs mobilising troops at the Kosovo boarder. Itâs all happening.
If Turkey had the cash, Erdogan will probably also see this as the perfect opportunity to go for the âBlue Homelandâ
The only entities who are in favour of genocide are Hamas (its in their charter if you care to read it), and Iran who have publicly stated it on more than one occasion. Throwing around sensationalist terms with no evidence is intellectually lazy and possibly a bit desperate as you have no facts to support your assertions.
Last time I checked. It wasnât Palestine who invaded and took control of Gaza and the west bank. Yes Palestine have had â â â â leaders. I totally agree with what you say on that front. Easiest way to stop all this crap was to recognise a two state solution. Palestine was in relative peace until 1948. Jews , Christians and Muslims all living in relative peace.
Far right wing politics in Israel doesnât help either. Netanahyu now saying all Palestinians are animals doesnât help. Israel are creating a ghetto no power, water ,gas. You would think after WW2 Israel would be the last country to create ghettos and treat people as sub human.
You did a pretty good of it yourself, donât you think?
Again you are ignoring the fact that Gaza has a border with Egypt who could easily supply Gaza with all the items you mentioned. There is a reason they choose not to, and why Jordan tried to massacre them during Black September, and the Gulf states chose to adopt the Abraham accords and why Saudis were in negotiations. Hamas are puppets of Iran and seek to destabilise the region to suit Irans geopolitical aspirations. There is a much bigger game at play here.
Oh please put down the Zionist propaganda sources you follow and start looking at the reality of the situation.
The fact that you cannot even recognise the killing of innocent Palestinian civilians at the hands of the Israeli government and the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory speaks volumes. Disgusting.
Things we know Hamas hate or wonât tolerate:
Jews
Israel
Christians
Gays/transgender
USA
Free Speech
Democracy/free elections
Salman Rushdie
What have I missed ?
Their own people
Agriculture students from Nepal.
Who ever said it was âPalestinian territoryâ isnât that just propaganda from the other side? Forgetting that the Jews have been there 4000 years?
