Missing/crashed planes, and other aviation mis/adventures

Only beneficiaries of Rex 737 removal is Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar

The consumer will get screwed again!!!

They fly a handful of flights per day on their 737’s only and have dropped the ball on their regional operations by siphoning money away from that part of their business.
They are getting what they deserve for being so pig headed. They read the room wrong initially and then doubled down on that due to arrogance

Virgin going to immediately take over leases of 3 Rex jets and will also accomodate all passengers who have booked with Rex at no extra cost.

yeah just got a message about flights i have in september saying to rebook through virgin

Should be able to do it online now. There were some online issues about an hour ago but fixed now

its a work trip i don’t particularly want to do. might see if i can get a refund and use it as an excuse to bail, but there’s probably fat chance of that if they’re in administration

No refunds
It’s rebook with Virgin or lose it

dang it

might have to pretend to not check my phone or email for all of august

don’t major domestic routes run on fk all margin anyway? what were they trying to do barging into that market?

How does that go in. Unbelievable.

Can you buy the plane itself?

15-20 yo ex Virgin 737s that have been flogged.
Virgin will use the “younger” ones in their fleet, I can imagine the oldest will be up for grabs.

I like to imagine you can.
They then drop it at your house, and you are stuck there going “oh fk, I didn’t really consider the practicality of this”.

Like when Bart won an elephant.

If i had a big property I’d park a few retired planes on it. Strip them out and use them for something.

or more ebay style. 99c buy, $3M postage.

The two oldest in Rex’s fleet are 20yo pieces of junk that Virgin somehow offloaded to them and will most likely be scrapped although I believe a couple of freight mobs have some slight interest in. I’d imagine Virgin will be after the 3 ex Silk/Singapore aircraft that are in the 9-15yo range and also from the same lessor they are dealing with currently to get another 3 from. Virgin need at least 6 more short term until more Max’s arrive

In ancient Siam if the king was happy with a noble he would give them an elephant and pay for the feeding. If he was unhappy he would give the elephant, but not pay for the feed. Considering elephants eat up to 400 kg of grass/day, the feed bill soon mounted up.

Over 350 Rex staff stood down immediately with plenty more to suffer the same fate. Staff told that wages and redundancy packages might not be paid for months.
2 of the aircraft have already been barricaded with lessors coming to tow them away in the coming days

Spin is very flat. Almost like the aircraft was loaded past its aft centre of gravity. It doesn’t appear that the rudder is deflected against the spin direction but by that point it wouldn’t have affected the outcome. Powerplant and propellor settings questionable. Ice is a possibility. More to learn, and dangerous to be too speculative I guess. A tragedy.
