Rediscovered his early season form on Friday night. Going to be hugely important for us in the run home, with the ruck situation dictating that Smack spends a bit of time there.

Thats a tall forwardline

It’s be interesting to know what his opponents think about playing on him, and how hard they have to work running with him.

Underrated Bomber shining brightly

Jeremy Cameron. Stephen Coniglio. Dustin Martin. Mitch Brown?

Essendon’s second-chance forward is emerging as a critical piece in the Bombers’ makeshift attack without spearhead Joe Daniher.

Just don’t go thinking Brown’s 23 disposals and four goals against Adelaide on Friday night were a fluke. In fact, the former Cat’s putting himself in elite company.

■■■■■■■ hard I’d imagine. Looks like a local footballer, runs all ■■■■■■ day. Midfield level running, ~14-15kms.

Not bad for a plodder hey @Bomber-A?

He’s better than some of the rhetoric around here suggests, but he’s still a limited footballer and very much in the role player category. He’s plays it well though and premiership teams need these type of players.

I actually rate him as more than a handy role player. And if you scroll up you’ll see i’m not just jumping on the Mitch Brown bandwagon. Players like him are massively underrated.

Most of us know he’s not going to be breaking open packs with a massive mark. Some people just can’t let go of that notion though unfortunately.

He knows his strengths and weaknesses and he uses them well.

Since there’s no Daniher this year Brown is going to be a very important part of any finals push we are taking.

Nah, role player is exactly what he is. He’s not gonna take a game by the scruff and win it for you. He’s not gonna hold down a forward line on his own. But as a part of a greater functioning whole, he is perfect. And his strengths perfectly suit the way we want to play, as evidenced by the list above where he sits along side genuine stars of the comp by virtue of being perfectly suited to the role he’s asked to perform. It’s the perfect example of devising your game plan to suit the players at your disposal.

And probably more importantly, the coaches know those strengths and tailor his role to suit them.

I reckon his play won the game as much as any other.

Who was our mythical holder-down of the forward line Friday night then?

Any forward line has 6 players with others running in.

For our rebound footy (brown possibly benefitted from our getting beaten at clearances and so launching many attacks with an empty forward line), he’s pretty great as he demands a tallish player but not many around his size can run like he can. You might reckon he can’t mark but it’d be dangerous manning him with someone under 190.

He’s a hard match up.

He is far better when there are two other targets. He needs space to utilise his real strengths.

Like on Friday when our other tall targets up forward were…?
