Rossi nearly high side!?
Wow Mir…
Damn
Great move.
Rossi was running a different line into that corner all day, and I think had a big moment through the previous chicane.
Jack wound up falling to 9th while Bags gets 2nd with a busted leg.
Something wasn’t right with Miller you’d think.
I really thought Rossi was gonna hold on
Congrats to Morbidelli. First Moto Win.
They just showed onboard from Mir as he passed Rins (who had a rear tyre that was unsettled all the way into that corner) and at the end of the straight you see Rossi nearly high-side on the exit. That allowed Mir to close up and then he made a great pass. That suzuki holds a seriously tight line through the corners and Misano suits it.
It’s a great championship.
It looked like he couldn’t pick the bike up out of the turns to change direction. Very sluggish and he was surviving only on straight line horsepower.
Congrats Morbidelli.
Great move from Mir.
Gutsy ride by Bagnaia.
Jack -great start & at least he finished & now 3rd in the Championship… wrong tyre choice it would seem. Next week here will be interesting.
miller could still be affected by his crash the other week.
Lol, I found a photo!
Turn 11 at PI, pretty sure.
By the end of that day, the bike was written off, leathers chewed up, a crack in the back of the helmet and I’d hobbled into the Isle of Wight with broken feet and was trying to work out how to hold a beer with a snapped thumb. Amongst other problems. Not the greatest day, nor my smartest one.
I ended up with a referral to a specialist hand surgeon in East Melbourne a few days later, after finally acknowledging that not being able to hold pliers at work probably indicated a somewhat severe issue.
He looked at the x-ray.
“Motorcycle, horse or bike?”
“Motorcycle”.
“Hmmph. Pretty typical. Full fracture, angled, Thomson break. Any dreams of being a concert pianist?”
“No.”
“That’s lucky. I can pin it but you’ll lose some span.”
“What’s the recovery?”
“About 12 weeks if I pin it. Three or four with just a cast”.
“I’ll take the cast.”
“Ok, we’ll do it now. I’ll change the angle a bit, it’s not quite where it needs to be.”
I looked at the scans whilst he gathered what he needed. Very clear, very obvious fracture at the base of right thumb. He soaked some gauze and started wrapping my hand in the bottom layer of plaster bandage.
“You know, it hurts a bit but I’d have expected worse.”
He gave me a roguish smile and jammed his thumb into the base of mine. Sweet mother of God, I take it back! I sat there with gritted teeth, sweating a small torrent from my forehead all over his table whilst he held the thumb where he thought it should be.
“Yes”, he said in an entirely conversational way . “The swelling holds it in position and it won’t really hurt if you don’t use it. But I couldnt leave it like that.” The minutes ticked by whilst the plaster hardened. It took about a month by my reckoning. “That should be about right now, not perfect but pretty good. Probably a few degrees lost in thumb span. That’s inevitable. The angle is more important. What’s your job again?”. He inspected his handiwork closely and started applying more layers to the cast.
“Electrician”.
“That will probably help you, actually. You’ll get your physio at work. Think your motorcycle days are over?”
I was feeling comfortable again, now that the thumb couldn’t move. “Probably not”, I laughed.
He shrugged and shook his head in good humour. “Oh well, you lot are putting my kids through school. See you in four weeks , we’ll x-ray it and pull the cast off”.
That crash changed my life in an unexpected way. My boss had been trying to get me into the office for years, wanting me to learn estimating and take over project management. I had resisted. But now, he seized on the opportunity afforded him and I spent a month in the office. I never fully got out, but I ended up more or less running the company for him.
Great photo. Love the story… we’ve ridden both horses (eventing), bikes & motorcycles so laughed loudly at the “you lot are putting my kids through school” comment. Too true!! MrL&P has a thumb with reduced range from a recent ‘off’ at Morgan Park. Similar to you he thought he was fine. Finally convinced him to go to Emergency the next day… 4 broken ribs, fractured thumb & very bruised shoulder. Drs shook their heads and muttered similar disapproval for all things motorcycle. Hasn’t stopped the riding of course & last weekend’s track day was the first since the crash. (But certainly not the last!)
Thanks for your story- greatly enjoyed.
Aki Ajo knows a winner when he sees one and loves his Aussies, awesome news.
miller qualis 2nd for tomorrows race.
Pretty damn good effort considering Jack hasn’t had the pace and he had to come through Qual 1, a top 5 placing will be a great result for him tonight.
Tipping Bagnaia to get the choccies but as we know anything can and will happen in MotoGP this year.
track conditions, bike setup changes and the impact on tyre choice will be fascinating given they were here last week too. I wonder if Jack has made some chassis changes to get more agility?
Yep, great effort to get into 2nd spot from nowhere. Will be interesting - just hope he doesn’t go out on soft soft again.
Another big crash in the warm up for him
Carnage early. Rossi dropped the front end. Binder likewise, twice! Morbidelli taken out by Esparago.
Bagnaia has just taken the lead from Vinales. Jack in 5th.
Expect more crashes.
