Odd incident, one wonders if there is a medical aspect. Not a high speed section and that pole is a decent way from where he likely left the track. Wet grass may have been a factor.

Fair fark up by Team 18. That will sting for a long time.

Worst mistake in the history of the race
Itâs up there!
They fell most of a lap short even with the safety car, so they probably needed close to 10 litres more to finish a green flag race. Thatâs a fair miss. Very surprising they werenât calling max fuel saving straight after the pit stop. I suspect they didnât realise and only started looking after the commentator asked them the question.
Had they started fuel saving straight away they miiiight have made it.
