Movie Genre - Top Ten War Films

Best war movie of all time imo and my fave of all time is the thin red line. Laughably underrated.

I really liked King and Country. I saw it again last week. Catch 22 is also a classic.

Malena with Monica Belluci is another war movie well worth watching.

In fact anything with Monica is well worth watching.

Downloaded that a couple months back but haven’t got around to watching it yet.

A combination of Giuseppe Tornatore and Belluci can’t go wrong.

This was also excellent.

You Tube is your friend.

A collection of 50 war movie titles. Includes some authentic training films and documentaries, as well as fictional titles from around the time of WW2.

One of my least favourite genres:

  1. Schindlers List
  2. War of the Roses
  3. Bridge on the River Kwai
  4. Platoon
  5. Life is Beautiful
  6. Born on the 4th of July
  7. Deer Hunter
  8. Paths of Glory
  9. Gallipoli
  10. Full Metal Jackecket

Platoon l consier more about the dehumanizing effect of army training than a real war movie. The war in this seems incidental to the main theme. At the time it came out much was made by critics of Kubrick’s ability to transform part of London to make it look like Vietnam. I have been to Vietnam 7 times and no part of it looked like the location in the movie.

Full Metal Jacket was okay to middling, but both pale by way of comparison to Apocalypse Now.

The movies i think represent war most accurately are the ones that reflect on the impact on those that have fought. Thats why i have never rated saving private ryan at all. I thought platoon fell just short, it was too black and white, good and bad. War is very grey. Thats why i love the thin red line.
Makes for an intersting convo around movies that are most accurate tactically, emotionally and ethically?

Apocalypse Now is close to the most overrated film of all time. The second half is excruciatingly boring.

They also have complete lists of war movies from other decades, from the 1930’s to the noughties.

Agree! It’s pretentious too!

Gee would have thought BAT21 would have made your honourable mentions, everything else did.:joy:
