Music You've Been Listening To

We’re on the same side here Wim (kinda). Like you, I’ve actually preferred much of Waters’ post PF stuff to the Gilmour-led PF.

I have no desire for he & DG to join forces again. PF was what it was and did great stuff. Great RW songs, great DG guitarwork.

I just wish all parties would let sleeping dogs lie and move on. Rebaking the past (musically or verbally) isn’t really what I’m after.

I don’t like the ■■■■■■■■ either.
I do feel like the songwriter has Way more cause to ■■■■■ about the guitarist taking the band name, but fine.
And I dispute that it’s all one way.
Live 8 proved that.

Edit: I mean for all the people that Care about that….Gilmour destroyed any chance of a reunion there.

Really dig PJ Harvey’s new album. Very moody

Have got this absolute banger stuck as an earworm today…

Ive been listening to a lot of instrumentals of pop songs recently. Sometimes I just reckon vocals get in the way of things. Some songs are fantastically written and arranged but the lyrics and sound of the vocals detract.

The talk of Crowded House not doing the GF got me exploring some of their instrumentals. Not a fan of Don’t Dream its Over, always found the lyrics overly soppy, but the instrumentals are slow and soulful and very listenable.

Feel the same way about God Only Knows. Fantastically arranged song, somewhat cringey lyrics (as with most beach boys stuff really). I feel it is enhanced without any vocals.

The first act signed to the short lived Virgin Australia label in the mid-80’s.
Fairly wild boys apparently (well, Michael Hutchence’s Dogs In Space character was based on their singer, Sam Sejavka…) and they imploded after only a handful of singles and a belatedly released album. This was their best track… broody, dark pop…

Stunning, Johnny Greenwood absolutely killing it , with Thom’s vocal performance just getting better.

Unfortunately Brad are no longer a band as their singer Shawn Smith died a few years ago during the making of this album. This is their final release. Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) plays guitar. This final album is a real banger! This is the lead track.

1995 was a very confused time for Australians.

But this was a kind of nice way to be confused on the pop side of things.

Oh…you don’t believe me?
Well here’s the best selling Australian single of 1995 (and the fourth overall).

I’m down the rabbit hole now.
‘94 Tomorrow. Good. Decent.
‘93 Gimme Little Sign - Peter Andre (yeah, that happened).
‘92 The Day You Went Away. Niiiiiiice. I mean…Canadian, but still lovely and nice.

‘96 I Want You - Savage Garden…
I mean…you either like pop or you don’t and…this is better than Mouth!

‘97 Savage Garden again edge out the ‘chair with To The Moon And Back over Freak. Happy with that duo.

‘98 Natalie doubles up and collects all those AUD’s with Torn and Big Mistake

‘99…okay…this is officially the worst year ever.
The Animal Song - Savage Garden. Never heard it in my life.

‘00 Nooooow we’re talking…Poison - Bardot

‘01 No…seriously this time. Kyle saves pop. Again.
Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

‘02 Not Pretty Enough. It a a renaissance! Can’t wait to see what…

‘03 Angels Brought Me Here - Guy Sebastian.
