I KNEEEW some bugger would have a go at me about condition.
I cleaned it!
It’s over forty years old!
You should be amazed it exists!!!
Jerry Miller from Moby Grape died. Im not a huge Grape fan, but I love this song Never from the Grape Jam record.
Another great track that Led Zeppelin were ‘influenced’ by.
Jazztrack beat me to it but it was Louis Armstrong’s birthday on the 4/8, although apparently at times he claimed it was Independence Day. Jazztrack played this, perfect choice. Late 50s I think, source of so much great music.
Joe Cocker, who like many others owed so much to Louis, must have agreed.
Nice cover. Louis’s is better… of course.
Playing the Corner Hotel!
Fair to say that will sell out quickly.
@Doggatron …you might like the guitar work in this one.
I’ve only just started listening to Katatonia and have liked their stuff so far.
Finishing overnights compulsory vinyl time.
Absolute cracking album.
I’ve picked up a few singles from it, including this one, but the album itself is difficult to find/monstrously expensive.
Bakes won’t be a fan.
Anecdote: (listening to records and just played Glittering Prize - Simple Minds) which Mrs Wim used to have as her ringtone.
Which means that Every Time She Answered The Phone, she heard the opening lines…
‘Shine on! Shine the lights on me!’ And then took the call.
I mean…the sheer audacity…
How can you not fall in love with that?
Kid Kapichi
UK Punk Rock band, well worth a listen
Zombie Nation is their tribute to Terry Hall and The Specials and features Suggs from Madness. Brilliant track.
I know it’s the title, but am I the only one who thought she was singing, Oh so scary?
Not many subtle…protest songs about domestic…oppression…
Not a fan generally, but love this re-composition.
Also had no idea how bleak the lyrics were all these years either.
Hi music fans,
If there’s anyone in here who doesn’t frequent the DJ King thread, just a heads up to let you know that we’ll be kicking off another Blonde DJ comp next week sometime, after the footy has finished. If you’re familiar with the comps and would like to join, let me know with an @ or a reply in here.
If you’re not familiar with them, we gather around 20-30 DJs to submit tracks matching themes, for voting on, in a competition with different rounds. Everyone votes on their favourites, and the songs submitted are “blind”, i.e. no DJ name attached, so you don’t know who you are voting for. In the next iteration there’ll be two preliminary rounds, and then the number of DJs will be whittled down for the final.
The action is tense, the banter to fill time makes the comp what it is, the dummy spits are legendary.
Please note that a comp usually runs for about 5-7 days, and in that time you will need to submit songs when asked (youtube links by private/direct message to the comp admin - this time it’s me), listen to other people’s songs, and submit votes. Basically, the comp runs smoothly when participants pop in to the thread a few times a day, and are able to get through a set (which could run up to 20 songs in some cases) in a day, whether morning, afternoon, or evening. The upcoming comp will require you to listen and vote on 3 separate sets over its duration.
If you have any doubts about finding the time, it’s probably best to not sign up. But if you are on Blitz regularly each day, no probs.
So far the following Blitzers are in:
Swoodley
Baakkeerrrr
Maxx
