Music You've Been Listening To

It’s rubbish

(But it’s a shitload better than that TFF crap you played earlier)

That’s a big sound!

Definitely DM in the chorus, but reminded me more of NIN on the whole (they’ve even cribbed the off-beat open hi-hat sound from Closer…)

Pretty derivative, but it was OK. I’d yes it…

Good lord.
Yes, I’d heard the album was good and I meant to get to it but grain of salt because…I mean come on, it’s 2024.

But gosh.

Yep, it’s 1989 but it’s 2024. I should get around to picking up a vinyl copy to hear how it sounds loud on my stereo.

I like the songs, I even like the production.
But the mix and mastering… dear God!!

It has been mixed and mastered so bloody hot it actually hurts my ears to sit and listen through… it’s literally St Anger levels of hurt.
It has no dynamic range at all.

I’d hope the vinyl has different mastering.

Just been listening to this:

ID.Entity by Riverside.

If you like prog rock, this is brilliant (imo)

I spent my late teens and early 20’s going through the grunge era and for some reason I never embraced Alice In Chains at the time, it was all about Nirvana, STP and a few others…
What a gift it is now to experience each song of such a legendary band and dive in to the story behind Alice in Chains.
The MTV unplugged got me in.

@mrjez I dont know if youve seen this live version. Maceos invitation by James Brown to come blow his horn is not faded out and is met with an almost ‘scream off’ challenge by Mr Brown that concludes in a very entertaining manner.

Note: the second drummer in wait…just in case one drummer is not funky enough.

Haha, yeah I watched it last night when I was looking up the tune. For some reason the song popped into my head with a memory of driving around with a group of uni classmates in the 90s, when one of them slipped a cassette in and “popcorn!” started blasting out of the speakers.

Since it is Xmas.

According to ‘The Age’, these are the ten best albums of 2024.

I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve never heard of any of these artists nor their music.

Bwhind a paywall but yeah… of the first two albums mentioned (before the block happened) I honestly couldn’t hum a note off either of them… that’s ok though, I doubt they are aimed at 50-something men…

The artists in question, from one to ten, are Charlie XCX, Ela Stiles, Tyler the Creator, Sabrina Carpenter, Adrianne Lenker, Eliza & The Delusionals, Nicolas Jaar, Dawn Again, Erika de Casier and Fontaines.

The only act I could say I’ve actively listened to from that list was Fontaines (to see what all the fuss was about) and found it distinctly underwhelming…

You’d be more of a Fountains Of Wayne guy, I’m guessing?

Yeah, I don’t find much interesting with Fontaines. The singles I heard off that new album were almost unlistenable to me. It seems like it should be in my wheelhouse but doesn’t resonate with me at all.

I’ve seen a heap of those “Best Albums of 2024” lists.

The only artists that I listen to that have made any of the lists are Nick Cave, The Cure and Opeth.

So I made my own Top 10 List (and it beats all the others  )

In no particular order:

Airbag - The Century Of The Self
Still Corners - Dream Talk
Grive - Tales of Uncertainty
The Pineapple Thief - It Lead To This
Weedow - Weedow
Opeth - The Last Will and Testament
The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World
Moon Wizard - Sirens
Snow Patrol - The Forest Is The Path
Distant Dream - End Of The World We Know
