Music You've Been Listening To

Bought Sabrina Carpenter LP for LMW for Christmas.
Don’t tell her.

Mine would be something along the lines of…
The The - Ensoulment
Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
Kim Deal - Nobody Loves You More
The Smile - Wall of Eyes
The Smile - Cutouts
The Fauves - Tropical Strength
Crowded House - Gravity Stairs
Pixies - The Night The Zombies Came

Not convinced any of them are great albums though… in particular, The Smile records are a great album padded out to be two albums.

Favourite “single” of the year (if such a thing exists anymore…)
The Electorate - Face Of A Giant

Just listened to this (finally)…I remember you talking about it a while back and thinking that I must listen to it.

It’s really quite good I think…it’s going onto the playlist so thanks

I don’t know whether you’ve listened to any other The The albums - Dusk is probably closest in sound and tone to the latest one if it floats your boat.

Yeah the Charlie XCX one was good, I hit that up for a few weeks, not my usual genre, but it was very good.

Tyler the Creators new one was a bit underwhelming to be honest, ever since he made IGOR, people been overrating his music IMO

Adriane Lenker was not bad, very beautiful, but sad.

The Nicolas jaar one I heard a few tracks off, again not bad. I didn’t listen to it in entirety so I can’t give honest opinion on it.

Fontaines was alright as well, but pretty over hyped, but I get the excitement, while they don’t sound like Oasis, they give off that big Brit pop band everyone’s been looking for, accessible but edgy.

The rest I haven’t listened to from that list.

I’m surprised that both

Geordie Greep - The New Sound
&
Magdalena Bay - Imaginary Disk

haven’t featured more on these lists.
Although I think it’s just legacy media that miss them, a lot buzz on the interwebsssss

Also really enjoyed

Father John Misty - Mahashmashana

There are two Chirstmas songs in Japan. And both these songs have many remixes of the original and other artists.

And how people feel about it.

Oh, I did listen to that, thought it was pretty cool.

Yeah very cool! I got tickets to their show in March with a buddy, can’t wait to be the old guys amongst bunch of 20 year olds.

Check out Geordie Greep - The New Sound, it’s like jazz rock with a sense of humour.

The track Holy, Holy is a banger

Cool, I’ll take a look. I just went back to Magdalena Bay to remind myself of the sound and find one track I thought was top notch, it was “Cry For Me”.

Yeah Cry For Me is a highlight, also
image - Death & Romance - Fear, Sex
Great three tracks in a row.

Fun fact, the first song they wrote for the album was Fear, Sex, they knew it was the epilogue for another song…so they thought ok… we’ll we gotta write the actual song now! Which was Death & Romance

I just remembered Mannequin Pu$$y’s album, I Got Heaven, was this year. I don’t really check out much new stuff, but I listened to that more than anything else new in 2024.

Yeah that was not bad. They just played at the corner hotel a few weeks back

They come here to Japan next month but only for one show in Tokyo unfortunately (I’m in Osaka).

I listen to this every day.

I just finished watering all my new plants in the native garden I put in left of the chook pen. It then immediately started raining.

However, Im drinking a glass of wine on the shed verandah with Woodie The Kelpie listening to this Townes Van Zandt song and I want the moment to last forever.

“…rain on a conga drum…”
