I know I got this from DJK.
And I know I didn’t give it the five it so richly deserved. I’m sorry, whoever you were, some tracks just take time. Just hope it didn’t cost you a spot.
Goddamn it’s good.
And what an awesome band name.
Oh wow, I just dug that album out last week for a listen. It’s a shame they couldn’t follow it up, as subsequent albums had diminishing returns. Scotland was producing a bunch of my favourite bands around the 2000s - these guys, Frightened Rabbit, Idlewild
If you know of Scottish band Bis, chances are you know them for their slightly cartoonish, B52’s-esque dance-pop. This couldn’t be further from that… love the build in the electronic soundscape, into some of the most angry-sounding guitar stabs you’d ever want to hear…
I’m…a little intrigued by this song. I want to like it more than I do. And I don’t know what feels off to me with it.
Is it that the lyrics are too on the nose?
Is it that the music is too by the numbers?
The start of the melody reminds me a little of Helter Skelter, but that doesn’t bother me.
Is it that…this somehow feels as corporate as the thing it’s singing about?
I don’t know. Want to like it, just…there’s something that feels a little false and that weirds me out.
Overthinking it. Song sucks, song title holds up.
I do love me a vague little protest song.
My prediction is some protest songs/albums in the short term. Come on down you Bob Dylan’s.
Not quite following, my friend.
Just the political landscape. Surely some talented musicians come out of the woodwork and start writing.
Ah.
Well, Passenger are probably your guys there. They’re more folky.
This is giving Way of the World, In The Flesh, Insurge.
Very basic rock, though. I think a remix could be cool.
I dunno. It’s not going to last, I know that. I have a little respect for how current and urgent it is.
Definitely got more…I don’t want to say listenable, that’s a bit rude….
Contemporary, as the song went on.
The first minute is kinda jarring, but I liked the rest.
Friendly Fires debut is such a slick album, can’t sit still to it. The two best songs appear together halfway through side 2, really interesting choice.
Brilliant early single from Bluey’s Dad & the Custaro boys… three cracking tracks, including this one…
