I dug out Rowland S. Howard’s 1999 album’Teenage Snuff Film’ today and was reminded just how talented the guy was.
For those who came in late, Rowland (R.I.P.) wrote ‘Shivers’ when he was a mere 16 years old.
I still have the 7" single in my collection.
Was Stevie off on a preordained Colombian Marching Powder break during that song?.. nowhere to be seen…
I’ve always had the feeling Lindsey Buckingham is a very loose cannon indeed. He has just enough pop sensibilities to not disappear up his own arse, and I suspect the others had to keep him on a pretty tight leash.
I always liked this solo track of his…
I think Stevie ruled the roost, a shame really of the music the band was genius.
When Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled album featuring the new line-up came out in 1975, I just assumed that Stevie Nicks was the guitarist and that Lindsey Buckingham was the hot chick.
So closeted?
TIL Single Gun Theory never had a hit single.
From a Million Miles #64
I Am What I See #One hundred and fifty Farking three (I didn’t even know they counted that far back)
Fall #64
I find that incredibly sad.
Been on a Depeche Mode binge over the last few days, starting at the beginning and going as recent as I could manage. A few things…
- That purple patch from Black Celebration to Songs Of Faith & Devotion was really something.
- Black Celebration is still my favourite of their albums.
- They really fell off a cliff after Alan Wilder left… seems pretty clear he was main architect in building the songs from Martin Gore’s demos to the final product.
- Amazing to think that Enjoy The Silence started life as a slow, maudlin ballad in its demo form.
When you go through these binges, it’s always cool to find deep cuts you’d not given enough attention to, like these…
Some cool, stark electronics from their early plinky-plonk days (a pointer of Gore’s songwriting to come)…
A slightly menacing sounding track from that golden run…
I’ve never quite got Depeche Mode which always confused me as I was really into a lot of English music during the 80s.
I’ve listened to a lot of their stuff and the reaction is always “meh”
Curious… have you listened to the singles or full albums?
They are one act where my “best of” playlist for them has a healthy proportion of album tracks in it…
Very much a singles band for me.
I’ve delved but not been satisfied.
They’re just so hit and miss for me. I don’t understand Enjoy The Silence, but I do like Blasphemous Rumours, which objectively…I feel like should be less…approachable.
Just Can’t Get Enough
People Are People
Personal Jesus
Blasphemous Rumours
Stripped
And I’m about done.
Listened to albums mainly.
I checked my playlist…not one song of theirs.
Clearly I don’t rate them at all.
