Dire Straits in yoiur head

The first time I saw Dire Straits was at Festival Hall in Melbourne in 1981 during their Making Movies Tour.

It was the second show of the tour after playing one night in Perth.

Love Over Gold hadnā€™t been releasedā€¦probably hadnā€™t even been finished at the time of the concert.

At a point during the concert, Mark Knopfler told the audience that they had a new song to play and that this would be just the second time that they had played it (first time being in Perth I would think).

The song was Telegraph Road.

O M Gā€¦I was not ready for the brilliance of the songā€¦itā€™s still one of all time favourite concert memories.

I know a couple that had Better Man as their bridal waltz.

They probably should have invested a bit more time in listening to the lyrics.

Has there ever been a stranger band than King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard?

Iā€™ve been listening to them quite a bit lately and have no idea what Iā€™m likely to get.

According to my spreadsheet, Iā€™ve now listened to 27 of their albums (currently listening to ā€œMade in Timelandā€).

The band must be made up of a heap of people with split personalitiesā€¦theyā€™re just all over the place.

Of the 27 albums Iā€™ve listened to, only two have made it to my playlistā€¦ā€Polygondwanalandā€ and ā€œPetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnationā€

And yet I keep listening and hoping that the next one will be worth it.
