These lads recorded an alternate soundtrack to Wake In Fright (jealous). This opening track is beautiful.
Disco’s influence on dance and club and eighties pop shouldn’t be understated, but it’s still an influence, it’s not the thing.

I put on Substance a few weeks ago.
The tunes themselves are remarkable still. That run from Blue Monday through to True Faith is as good a run of singles as anyone’s had.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… the lyrics though…
Barney is one of the worst lyricists in the history of mankind. Scratch lyrics scrawled on the back of a beer coaster that somehow made it through to the final recording, filled with grade 4 level rhymes…e.g:
The sea was very rough
It made me feel sick
But I like that kind of stuff
It beats arithmetic
It’s really quite remarkable that not one of the other three didn’t at some point listen to a playback and say “Barney, mate… those lyrics… have another crack at it, eh…”
Once you notice it, it’s really hard to not hear it. I just have to listen to them loud - and never through headphones - so I can’t pay too close attention…
Yeah, the best NO songs are when you hear the words, singalong, but never really consider the meaning. It’s never that poetic or profound but can work really well at times. BLT, True Faith, Ceremony, Blue Monday… really simple lines but can give you depth if you’re looking for it, and don’t come off naff.
That said, I think some of the story songs like 1963 or Love Vigilantes are lyrically good.

Righto. Have just recently returned from my second visit to Croatia for Balance festival, which given our seasons of late, gives me some respite from footy, and here’s a set from one of the acts we managed to see at the time. Was a bait party with Danny Howells playing after Rada.
If you like electronic music, specifically progressive house, it’s worth a listen.
