NBA 2018/19 Ben Simmons is ROTY. MEGA THREAD!

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have lived his life and been one of the greatest ever to play a specific sport. But when you talk about the GOAT conversation people will pick out all his imperfections, especially when he called himself the GOAT.

That’s not really what I’m talking about. He makes teams great when he’s there, but they turn to ■■■■ after he leaves. Partly because they lose one of the best to ever do it, but also because he always completely sells their future for the the present. Never has an eye on succession. Was 3 years of Lebron and AD worth 10 years of Ball, Ingram, Hart and who ever gets drafted with those picks? If I where a Lakers fan I would be feeling really uneasy about the long term future if the franchise right now. Guys like West, Baylor, Magic and Kobe are Laker lifers and hand on heart are more true Lakers than Wilt, Kareem and Shaq. Those 3 came in to solidify solid foundations. Post Lebron Heat and Cavs teams have really been terrible. The current Lakers team as of right now has to rely entirely on free agents and your draft position is crap until 2022

The Lakers have been the equal worst team in the NBA with the Knicks over the past 6 seasons. Last season was the 6th straight season not making the play-offs. Prior to that, dating back to when the Lakers were in Minneapolis, they had only missed the post-season 5 times. That’s from 1947-2013. They have been a remarkably consistent franchise and only Boston can rival them for history. New Orleans pretty much controls the Lakers draft until 2024 given there the possibility of pick swaps in there too. But they got their guy and have given themselves a chance they otherwise wouldn’t have. The clock is ticking though on LeBron. That’s why if they get Leonard that safeguards them to an extent post-LBJ knowing they would still have a pretty lethal duo at or near the peak of their powers that they can still build around.

I’m sure Cleveland fans would have preferred to build slowly around Wiggins and Irving than win their only title for 50 years. That worked swimmingly when they had Daugherty, Price, Harper and Nance in the 80s.

I agree with that, but if Kawhi doesn’t go there they have AD and no decent picks or assets until after Lebrons contract is over.

Pretty much. It would be similar to what he’s had to deal with at the Pelicans, except he’s in LA. The problem is if Kawhi doesn’t choose the Lakers he has ■■■■■■ them up because most of the decent mid-level Free Agents have signed elsewhere whilst they wait on him. They’d be scraping the dregs of what’s left. At best they’d probably end up with Boogie, Marcus Morris, Danny Green (although if Kawhi signs with the Raps he will return to Toronto).

They can’t afford green unless he’s willing to take a massive pay cut.

i don’t think this is true.

Zion playing Summer League today v RJ Barrett and the Knicks.

That sounds like it would be a good watch!

Also apparently Kawhi will only be signing a long-term contract wherever he goes (according to Chris Carter), so that could possibly rule out the Raptors if he does indeed plan to return to California.

Well if he is coming to the Lakers I would assume he is making his decision tomorrow (tonight/early morning in Australia) because he will be costing himself $11mil due to the Anthony Davis trade needing to go through.

zion just robbed a man of his life.

He’s built like Serena Williams.

Surely his nickname has to be The Big Easy now that he’s in NO

zion took knee-to-knee contact and not coming back on.

That’s enough summer league for me then.

He needs to shed 10-15lbs.

He won’t be able to sustain that physique for very long in the NBA.

280lbs, he’s the 2nd heaviest player in the NBA behind Boban, who’s 7’3”. He probably only needs to drop down to 250-260 just to take the load off his knees and ankles. He’s that powerful of an athlete.
