NBA 2024/25

andddddd we’re going to Overtime!

The in-form Bucks threw the kitchen sink at the world champion Celtics, but Boston hang on at home. Big games from Brown, Tatum and Holiday.

Season sweep

Trey Young with the dagger 3 to take the lead and win the game. Damn, that’s rough for the Lakers.

Trae Young: 31 pts and 20 assists is worth mentioning as well.

Daniels with another 4 steals.
Two big plays in the last minute of OT, a steal and then tied AD up for jump ball.

Rough game, but expected.
Just get caught playing poor defence too often.
Sloppy pass from AD to Lebron (Lebron was soft on the play too) for the Daniels steal and Lebron at least hustles it down and gets the block from behind.
We struggle to secure the defensive rebound on a Trae drive, it gets out to Hunter (for memory) for a wide open 3.
An inbounds to AD and instead of him holding the ball high and forcing fouls, he brings the ball down and instead of fouling, Atlanta tie him up.
We win the tip and somehow don’t secure the ball.
The final play where Gabe and AD switch poorly and leave Trae open for 3.

The defensive switching is incredibly poor. The opposition knows we’ll switch on any kind on screen, so if they want a favourable matchup they just call their opponent over for the screen to get the mis match. We sometimes double it and it leaves shooter wide open.

It’s a poorly constructed team. That has many limitations.

The Lakers are 26th in defensive rating this season. They’re getting abused so badly because they have a 4-man defence. They fired Darvin Ham in a season where they made the playoffs, replaced him with a podcaster, and it’s looking worse this season. How much rope does JJ Rhetoric get?

The defensive lapses are on all of them.
Not concentrated on Lebron (although I doubt you see it that way).
He has his problems and does get caught flat footed often but the others are just as bad and even worse.
Davis makes up for his errors. And unfortunately, we don’t have a back up centre to give him a break.
Overall, we don’t have a roster that defends well. We don’t have a roster that can run up and down the floor. It doesn’t have consistent 3 point shooting.
Outside of Lebron and Davis, there is very little reliable and consistent players and the majority of them are good offensively and poor defensively or good defensively and poor offensively.
With this roster, a lot has to go right just to compete. That happened to us in 2022 where we threaded the needle and drew a young Minnesota in the play-in, then a young Memphis in the first round, Golden State (who couldn’t deal with the AD switch on to Curry) and then Denver for the sweep.

Our only hope is waiting for Feb to improve the roster when the trade period comes to a close. Our season is likely to be over by then though.

I’m not too concerned with JJ. Offensively we were okay earlier in the year and it’s fallen away. It’s obvious the bubble burst once teams got a chance to get us out of that AD ‘hub’ and now they crush our confidence by hitting open 3s (which was there with Darvin).
Defensively was always going to be tough. This team isn’t a playoff team (top 8) in the west. If we’re lucky, we make 9th or 10th. But again, that’s if we’re lucky.

Hopefully, we back in JJ and don’t just sack him for missing playoffs. This is the Lakers though so he’s every chance to find his way back to podcasting.

LeBalco with another quality triple double against the World Champion Atlanta Hawks.
Some other stats worth mentioning - 94 turnovers and a -129 for the season.

It’s not a defensive lapse from LeBron. It’s a flat out refusal to put in any effort on the defensive end. When you have one player basically giving nothing aside from the odd highlight play so everyone can say “look at what he can do in Year 22”, it causes issues for everyone else.

That’s bullshit.
It just triggers those that want something else to talk about.

On the last play, the lapse that led to Trae Young having a wide open 3 point shot had nothing to do with LeBron. He was on the other side of the court.
But of it course…
It somehow does…

Yes. He is a terrible defender. It’s frustrating when he doesn’t run back on defence at times and cries for the foul. AD does it too. And anytime he’s matched up on Jokic, Jokic knows he can beat AD up the court more often than not. I’m fine with both of them doing what they can defensively because the others can’t fill the offensive gap as consistently.
But he’s not the reason why Rui and Gabe both chase Jimmy Butler as he cuts to the basket without the ball leaving Tyler Hero wide open for three while Lebron is on the other side of the court.

But I know you don’t see it that way…

Lebron had a very good game and the Hawks are no slouch (6 wins in a row).

It’s straight up farcical now. Salaun injured and Nick Richards didn’t play against the Cavs either. Mark Williams is being heavily managed , to the point that Taj started and got 17 minutes.

Nick Richards in a lot of trade rumours. He might be getting protected at the moment.

Hornets were only down 101-97 with 6 minutes to go. Then Cavs went 15-5 and ended it pretty quickly.

The heat red is not it today

Luka and the Mavs are starting to get it together.
