I remember the Barkley trade.
The Shawn Kemp for Baker trade.
Nothing like this.

As a Laker, this feels like signing Shaq in the 90s.

I’m more shocked in that I thought Luka would be a Mavericks lifer like Dirk. The fact the franchise pulled the trigger on this and it wasn’t him wanting out is even more astounding. Can’t wait to see the Lakers 3-man defensive scheme. Redick has a massive job on his hands. The basketball fit is arguably worse than LeBron and Westbrook.

WTFnF.

That is insane.

Nah. It’s nothing like Lebron and Westbrook. Westbrook was never going to take over the team and make it his own once Lebron was gone.

This will lead to a total roster rebuild for the Lakers.
Doncic is out until All Star weekend (roughly).
Lebron isn’t keeping this team afloat until then.

I’m expecting Rui and Reaves to be traded now too.
If we somehow get Miles Turner, it’ll be a big short term boost.
We need to sort out our depth and bench too. With very little draft collateral. And that draft collateral is diminished because even with just Doncic, we’ll be good enough to stay out of the lottery.

LeGM gonna have his work cut out

I reckon this is a long term move rather than a short term one.

James can’t last much longer and with Luka, The Lakers will still have their megastar.

the mavs initiated this?

i wonder how that phone call went. probably wasn’t even a negotiation. just booked a.d. on the next flight

MAVs gm gonna start working at the lakers/busses next year bank on it

Yeah.
Given no one (and I mean absolutely no one) saw this coming, I’d believe the reports that AD, Lebron and Luka didn’t know about this trade until we all knew. I’d even go as far as to say that the report was held back until after the game against New York was completed and players had left the building.

Apparently, Dallas spoke to many other teams to be a third team in a potential trade. I recall Windhosrt mentioning on his podcast a week ago that speaking to other team GMs, there was a thought something big was happening, but most thought it was for Butler. Then the Fox trade stuff started circling.
No one thought Doncic was going to be traded.

It’s just crazy to think that a Doncic trade occurred before a Butler trade.

nah bobby marks reporting other gms had no idea, seems like just ainge got his grubby mits on it

Part of the reasons the Mavs explored moving off him was a concern over his physical conditioning given he was due for a supermax contract. Only 25 (26 in March) but if he doesn’t look after himself he might be cooked by his early-30s.
