I once travelled interstate for work with a guy who got one. He was in hospital for 2 weeks before they let him go home.

If the DVT dislodges it can cause a Pulmonary Embolism which is the concern.
The NBA probably wouldn’t want the players returning whilst on blood thinners as that carries a few other risks when it comes to sport with any physical contact. Otherwise though, once they’ve had their treatment and a couple of follow up Ultrasounds they should be fine to play.

It varies case to case, but a sub-48 hour discharge for a DVT isn’t uncommon for someone who is otherwise healthy.

Not normal. But it’s a good chance to happen when your that sloppy with the ball.
