I’m pro-LeKon .
How was Jokic’s reaction? If looks could kill!
ahh pro konstantinopel
I wonder if the young spurs had a big night out in NY last night? Definitely wasn’t expecting the Knicks to crush them. Bridges loves playing against the Spurs too.
Giddey has had a few tough weeks coming back from injury, but looked a lot better today.
20 points (50% eff) 5/11 triples, 14r, 10a, 2s, 1b
With today’s TD, he has tied Scottie Pippen with the second most TDs for the Bulls. Quite fascinating considering he’s only been there for 2 seasons and injured. Probably says more about the Bulls post the Jordan era….
Boston powers away from the Sixers in the 4th for the easy home win. Queta with a career night 27 points and 17 boards!
Actually more TDs than Pippen when you count the ones he got at Thunder. But to your point, 8 of the top 14 career TD totals sit with current players, so the thing may be a shift in the way the game has played that leans to modern players getting TDs more often than past
I’m not close to 100% sure but I have a recollection that “back in the day” an assist was “a pass to a player who then shot ball and scored” If the player receiving the pass then dribbled the ball on the way to making the shot, it didn’t count as an assist.
Maybe someone can shed more light on that.
I know for a pass to count as an assist the scorer can only take a certain number of dribbles, etc. Triple Doubles would’ve been a lot harder to get in say a Phil Jackson system where nobody really dominated the ball to that extent where they’d have a usage rate high enough to rack up TDs.
I recall John Stockton’s record assist was a poor bounce pass into the post to Malone who just gathered the awkward bounce, turned and shot a fade away.
I thought they adjusted the way those passes were counted after that, but not sure it held true. I understand drawing the defence, passing off and the player still dribbles and scores should be an assist. Same with a look ahead pass from a rebound, leading to dribbles then a score is also an assist. Most assists are pretty logical. The pass into the post play was always a bit sketchy. Maybe it has something to do with the time to grab the ball and then score? I don’t recall Kevin Johnson getting assists for passing into Barkley. Or Derek Harper for passing into Ewing. Or Kenny to Hakeem. And those two would generally hold the ball a tad more or do a drop step before the score.
The reason why there’s more triple doubles nowadays than in the 90s is simply because there’s more possessions per game so more opportunities. The 90s relied more on post play, whereas everyone is out on the perimeter so the assists are more within the flow of the game and more on player movement than post driven and waiting for the opponent to react. Also, free throws don’t count as assists and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s less free throws per number of possessions than there were back in the 80s and 90s. And yes, nowadays the ball is in the best players hands more often than it was in the 80s and 90s. Point guard was an actual position. Shooting didn’t matter so much as you had Rod Strickland, Scott Skiles and Avery Johnson running offences. Now it’s just another guard spot who can defend, move without the ball and hit jump shots. Same deal with the power forward and centre. Like it or not, the roles have evolved to suit the players in the game. There’s reason why the 90s had heavy post play. You had generational post players like Hakeem, The Admiral, Shaq, Ewing, Mourning, then the good to great ones like Daugherty, Smits, etc all playing at the same time. Once they were gone, it was Shaq and Duncan then a whole heap of good to great centres (Wallace, Ming, Howard, Stoudamire, etc). There were a lot of centres through the 90s and 2000s who were there as foul dummies. I’m not sure if Wemby brings that type of defender back. He’s far too versatile and has far more ways to beat his opponent. And it’ll probably show in his usage rates compared to the 90s centres.
Hornets get to 0.500 for the season on the back of a 5 game winning streak. Granted, these were mostly teams that theoretically they “should” have beaten. But for the best part of a decade , these are the ones they typically don’t.
A fantastic chance to really measure themselves now , though, with a matchup against the most-certainly-not poor Boston Celtics. In Boston. If we’re competitive there , we’re a legit danger in the play ins.
Hornets balling all over Boston, they were like crazy odds $3 too.
If there was a HornetzBlitz forum site, I suspect the “lid off” thread would be rather busy right now…
Good game and can’t fault our effort but OKC have just too much class
Said it weeks ago…Hornets will be a playoff team. Haven’t seen us dominated like that at home for a long time. Super impressive to watch atm.
Woah. 29 point win . In Boston.
Kon 20
Miller 18
Melo 18
Coby White 17.
That’s some result.
Why were flames not emanating from his head?
NBA Jam has been less than truthful.
