What do people think about the free throw rule trial where one free throw for whatever you were shooting when fouled?

Seems like an unnecessary tinker when there is something bigger that impacts the viewability of the game that they really should be addressing first….

Do you mean that if a player gets fouled when attempting a 3 pointer, he only gets one free throw?

If so, that is about the dumbest thing I’ve heard (in terms of basketball rules).

I understand the intent, to speed up the game, but I’m not convinced that this is the best option.

That’s just dumb…imagine how many extra fouls will be called, especially in tight games…”Curry for three…hard foul as he attempts the shot…off to the line for one free throw”

Honestly, sports administrators are some of the dumbest people on the planet.

Always messing with rules that don’t need messing with.

Why would extra fouls be called?
They would be called as they are now.

Example…Steph Curry…an excellent three point shooter and an excellent free throw shooter.

Tight game…Warriors have the ball…there’s a great chance that they will go through Curry so you put your end of bench player on with instructions to foul him…Curry attempts the shot from outside the three point line but misses due to the foul…he then gets one free throw.

That’s a major win for the opposing team.

If he makes the one free throw he gets the 3 points, so not really helping. Would more likely lead to more haq a shaq than intentionally fouling good shooters

One free throw that is worth 3 points. Given he is a 90% FT shooter, you’re basically giving him 3 points.

Curry’s a 42% 3pt shooter, 92% FT shooter, Curry will take those odds every time.
If you send someone out to foul him on a 3 point attempt you’re a fool.

And that was the part that I missed…I didn’t realise that the free throw was worth the value of the attempted shot.

Ball to Minnesota officially done.

The Hornets receive Naz Reid, an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps, three second-round picks and the draft rights to Matteo Spagnolo from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Mouhamadou Gueye from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for LaMelo Ball and Josh Green as part of a four-team trade including Brooklyn, Chicago and Minnesota.

Still feels underwhelming, though I do really like Naz.

I think they need to find a way to stop intentionally fouling at the end of games. I get that good players need to hit shots but I’m sick of close games turning into free throw shooting contests.

I think you’ll get great value in a trade with Naz.
Every chance that you could trade him to a contending team for a first round pick + a good young player.

With the new draft rankings, if you can stay competitive enough not to be a play-in team and not be bottom handful of teams, you’re a chance to build through the draft with top 5 picks.

You’ve got Dallas’ first round next year (as long as not top 2) and your own so there’s a good chance you leave the draft with two top 10 picks. I think you have Miami’s as well too (top 14 protected), but I doubt they drop below being a play in team.

Doing those draft lottery sims throws up some real random results. There’s always 1 team that jumps up 7 or 8 spots and every few times I run it, around 5 teams jump 5+ spots. I doubt those new rules will be kept past 2030. I’d be surprised if they aren’t re-worked in a few years time because it helps mid ladder teams too much. The intention is it forces bottom teams to not go for salary dump deals and take a chance on ‘average prospects’ instead and try and win games late in the year to go for better draft position, but you’re as much of a chance to get a stacked team miss out on playoffs due to injuries, get a top 5 pick (or better) and be a championship team the next year. It’s going to have some real bad side effects.
