Sadly my melon is too large for this years too, it turns out, but dingus Jr and the lady woman dingus are most pleased.

Neale was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday honours

Two Essendon football players get the same honour in the one year, colour me amazed. Neale is in good company with Michael Long. To think the Big Freeze and fight against MND and the fight against racism are being led by 2 ex-players from this same mighty club, is something to be proud of.

“Watching big freeze now. Michael Long and Neale Daniher really deserve it. Essendon is an amazing club to develop such honourable men”

In the post above, l said that 2 past Essendon players have been given the OA recently. I need to amend that post, to 3 ex-players in one year. This is unprecedented in sport and in Australia.

But as the media would put it, Ex Demons coach and Aboriginal Elder.

That can be said now by the churlish, but only after they played with us.

I don’t follow anyone on Twitter but saw this from another link, and l like Swan’s idea, Neale Daniher for Ozzie of the Year, if not him then Michael Long. Both would be most worthy recipients. The best scenario would see one Daniher this year, Long next year.

Neale has clearly transcended the AFL world so I hope we can recognise his contribution to the world and make him Australian of the year so he can understand the impact he has had on the country and many many individuals ❤️

That would be great for Neale.

I know Longy was a finalist in 2019, the 2 guy’s that got/saved the junior soccer players out of the Thai cave won it.

Would have liked Longy to win it, but those 2 were deserving winners.

Great tribute to Neale tonight at the Assumption College 130th anniversary celebrations at Crown.

Unfortunately Neale can’t be here but Anthony is doing a great job in his place in doing some of the presenting work. They said to expect another announcement about Neale later in the evening.

School has also tonight announced a partnership with Essendon FC going forward includes use of the Hangar facilities for high performing students, coaching and development programs for students and staff. Lots of red & black in the room so very happy & no doubt Neale would love this link too.

I love Neale Daniher he was one of the best footballers I’ve ever seen. Beautifully balanced, exquisite skills could turn a game off his own boot.

But the media makes like he never played for Essendon. He was only ever a Melbourne coach.
I love what he’s done, I love what he and Melbourne have done MND which having known a sufferer I know is a dreadful dreadful disease.
But sometimes I think I’d like us to be able to celebrate his achievements as well.

So true. He will always be Essendon before Melbourne. His family is club royalty, something they will never be at the Dees.
