There was a lot of talk a few years back about a possible 2nd airport in the sth east near Koo Wee Rup. Did that idea get scrapped?
Last I heard it was still in the background but these things cost a stack and with MEL requiring so much money to get it up to scratch perhaps it’s not feasible currently

Lindsay and Avalon want to be the only 2nd airport in MEL.
Only problem with that is that no airline wants to go there and freight companies have told them to get nicked. Another of Scotty’s white elephants

Do you mean Scott Morrison ? If so, thought Linfox got involved long before Scotty was in Parliament. Thought it was Ian McLachlan who did the deal with Lindsay.
Yes Fox was in it long before then. I can’t remember if Scotty was PM or Treasurer at the time but he gave Avalon $20m when everyone knew it would be a lemon.
Everyone loves laughing at a stack of Bogan Missles lined up on a runway. It’s art. Why hide them.

True but they take up vital landing slots and it would get them out of the lounges

If you fiddle around google maps satellite view you can still see the outline of the long abandoned WWII Koo Wee Rup RAAF base
A no goer as it could have wiped Poowong off the map.
And by further draining of the swamp, could have taken out some of the best agricultural land for vegetable production
Yep, I remember when they were still landing military planes at Fishermens Bend and they all went to Avalon.
Pfft, they will have sold it to put up cheap blocks of flats and crap houses all over there soon enough.
It’s still a big vegetable production area, maybe zoned.
The crimes are housing estate development at South Werribee and around Romsey in the Macedon Ranges.
