New Gold Coast Concessions

What rich history?

Our second rounders are a crapshoot anyway so this is the best year for GC to get the high draft pick.

Won’t effect us but will our competitors trying rise up the ladder.

Yeah, this. If our second rounders being pushed back 3 spots this year is going to condemn us to another decade of mediocrity, then we’ve got bigger problems.

Yep, it’s one more elite talent off the table for Carlton, Nth, etc. to have access too.

I’ve been to many Gold Coast games, not once has there ever been more Suns fans there than opposition supporters. It is a stain on the three day old underwear of the competition.

If this doesn’t work it will be an epic failure and will have delayed natural progression of the rest of the AFL teams, again…

But the AFL don’t admit they were wrong, so may as go all in right?

Just heard on Trade Radio that GC don’t have to bid for their academy players, they can just list them exclusively. I had missed this on first reading of their “package”. It is insane what they have just been given.

If all they’re getting is more draft picks and players then they are still crocked.

GC have not been able to get on board the sizeable AFL community up there. They need to crawl back to the community with their tail between their legs and get them more involved.

GS’s exec and community engagement has been a joke from the very start… players leave because they can’t get how they are playing for an AFL club yet it feels like their playing in the Millewa League, but with fewer supporters.

Next year, AFL will announce salary cap and football department cap concessions and off-field marketing subsidies to retain players… bookmark it.

They’ll go all in on keeping Gold Coast alive.

Can gold coast just FOAD?

What a ■■■■■■■ joke. Nobody even cares about this ■■■■ team and they are getting gun players handed to them on a silver platter.

Again, FOAD

So can anyone confirm that the areas of Darwin that they have been given are our zones?

How soon before these new concessions make Gold Coast a genuinely competitive team?
Are some debutants going to make that much of a short term difference in a team that is struggling?

Pretty sure the whole Darwin region is theirs now.

Darwin must have still been part of the draft.?

Next Generation Academies

In 2010, the AFL had set up four junior development academies, two each in Queensland and New South Wales, which were run by the AFL clubs based in those states (Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney and Sydney). The academies were designed to aid the development of junior footballers from the states traditionally dominated by rugby league. The AFL club which ran each academy was afforded priority access (but not exclusive access) to draft graduates from their academies, providing a direct incentive for those AFL clubs to invest in junior development which would not otherwise have existed under the draft.[14]

Through 2015, the AFL developed a plan to enable all AFL clubs to establish similar academies, known as ‘Next Generation Academies’, with each club allocated a zone and juniors qualifying residentially. This was designed to give all clubs an incentive to invest directly in junior development, particularly focussing on diverse and indigenous backgrounds. As with the northern clubs’ academies, a club will have the ability to draft its academy’s graduates with a discounted draft pick, but will not have exclusive recruitment rights. In February 2016, the AFL announced the allocation of Victorian, Tasmanian and Northern Territorian zones amongst the ten Victorian clubs; unlike historical zones, not all clubs were given both a metropolitan and a country zone, with most clubs receiving either one or the other. [15]. North Melbourne was designated Tasmania at large.

South Australian and Western Australian AFL clubs (Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Fremantle and West Coast) were designated SANFL and WAFL clubs and their respective country and metropolitan zones.[16]

In 2017, Greater Western Sydney’s academy rules were changed for its Albury, Riverina and Sunraysia zones in southern New South Wales, the club only has access to indigenous and multicultural players in these zones.[17]
