It’s bizarre. All the draft followers were pretty confident Dart was going late first round and was going before Sanders in the lead up from what I could tell.
I was surprised Loveland went that early, every mock I saw had Tyler Warren going before him. I was holding very faint hopes he would slide to the Chargers at 22, but I knew it was not going to happen. The Jags trading up to get Travis Hunter was good, that guy looks to be a freak.
Looking forward to watching the results from day 2 when I get home tonight.
If Hunter is anywhere near what is promised he’s going to be a star. He even pulled off the hot pink jacket!
Sanders still available at 82. That’s crazy.
Now into the third round. Not sure who really wants him at this point.
Milroe goes at 92 to the Seahawks.
Browns took a quarterback… that isn’t Shedeur Sanders.
This is gettin’ juicy.
Day 2 complete.
Shedeur Sanders is still undrafted.
The Packers have addressed pressing needs at Edge and CB by selecting… two wide receivers and an offensive tackle.
These all seem like good players, but… needs!
Aaron Rogers would be shaking his head.
He’s too busy tripping on psychedelics with Rogan and RFK Jr.
Some 5’11 guy that no one has heard of.
The Sanders fall is a little extreme I reckon
Yeah, Gabriel is his name, I think?
Statistically equal or worse to Sanders in most metrics, which leads one to believe that there is definitely more going on here than just ability.
I actually am starting to feel sorry for him a little bit. The prank call was way over the top.
From my far far distant view there are a few things I’d add.
-
NFL recruiters have almost zero idea of whether quarter backs are good or not.
-
Sanders appears a good game manager, who is pretty tough, who makes plays, but doesn’t have the athleticism to be expected from Deion’s son, and has a comparatively weak arm
-
Sanders has been in a terrible offence and kept stepping up
-
The circus doesn’t appear to be his doing as most reckon he’s a good kid, but it’s absolutely been a circus for 2 years, and is an even bigger one now. Someone trades up to the end of Rd 1 and it’s just a “yeah, he wasn’t rates that highly, but teams need a QB and he has some qualities that they liked”. Now it’s a much bigger circus
-
At least I know who Milroe is, and most reckon he’s got no idea how to play the QB position, but is a fantastic athlete. (so the opposite of Sanders, who can play the position). I have never heard of the guy that the Browns took, so who knows
-
In the end he’d be pretty long odds to make it. But the same with Dart, Milroe and Gabriel. Even Ward they reckon would have been the 6th QB last year, so he’s no guarantee.
-
Refer back to point 1. If you haven’t got a QB you need to take a flyer, and no one really knows. It’s stunning with so many teams having garbage QBs that no one has taken a punt yet.
I heard a couple of weeks ago someone suggest Sanders qualities were a bit Purdy like. So I guess given Purdy was a very late pick it’s about right. But it’s amazing to watch the circus that’s in full swing now!
There’s jokingly speculation that Sanders will end up in the CFL if he isn’t drafted.
I actually think, in that situation, he’ll end up in the UFL.
With The Rock a league co-owner, he’ll know how to milk the Sanders circus to the UFL’s advantage and get some additional eyeballs on their games.
Quarterbacks are notoriously difficult to evaluate as there’s so many variables that will inflate/deflate their projection - scheme, surrounding talent, processing ability etc.
Then you need to establish if what they do fits with what you’re trying to do as a team. No point bringing in a a big arm gunslinger if your offence is predominantly short underneath throws, run after the catch stuff.
So with that being said we can sort of evaluate him ourselves on play alone. As you said, he’s a game manager who’s accurate but relatively weak arm. Took too many sacks, was a poor teammate and didn’t really flash much high end athleticism. Right there shows you his ceiling is extremely limited and that’s not factoring in the circus that will follow him.
Dart and Milroe both have much higher end traits, but the floors (especially in Milroe’s case) are objectively much lower. But importantly, they don’t come with the baggage.
Quarterbacks drafted high bust more than just about any other position.
Usually the failure of the organisation imo. The team is picking high because they suck, so the landing spot is going to be a horrible situation. Very few QBs - especially rookies - can overcome a truly horrible team surrounding them.
