As soon as that puck landed on McDavid’s stick, in that part of the ice, with that much space… it was game over.
Kudos to the NHL. There was a lot of negative feelings (particularly in the hockey media) towards this tournament heading in, but it absolutely delivered.

Love the format. Kinda of had a State of Origin energy to it, which is not something we really see much of there.

Not sure how the Flames beat the Caps, but we’ll take it, especially at the start of an absolute horror road trip.

The Flames have such a weird situation brewing.
A few years back, we traded a future first rounder with Sean Monahan to Montreal (for future considerations) just to get his cap hit off the books. Obviously, Monahan has bounced back pretty well, and Montreal actually flipped him and got another 1st rounder out of it.
That first rounder we traded is this year’s pick. Thankfully we top 10 protected it, and if that kicks in, we give Montreal a later first rounder which we got off Florida in the Tkachuk trade.
So, the worst possible scenario for the Flames this year, is to miss playoffs but still not finish in the bottom 10.
Which is exactly where we are right now. It’s all very Essington.

I do love the US system where a Captain can simply be traded mid season. I think it’s clear that Boston are going to blow it up at some point.
Caps pick up Beauvillier which I think is a pretty solid trade for depth
