So?? Are they not allowed to do that??

You are acting as if they’ve been bad when you have only proved my point lol

Never said that. I said they certainly haven’t dominated the league. The Vic clubs still have HUGE advantages over other teams.

I’m all for academies, F/S etc but a much higher price needs to paid for them. None of this magical fairy dust points system. With live draft trading it’s now possible to tweak the system. Using say Heeney as an example, if another club selects him at pick 3 for instance then the onus is on the Swans to get that pick 3 or close enough to make it happen. The Swans would have to live trade out picks/players to get him in. Or if they are going to keep the points system then it needs to be far higher and you are not allowed to go into deficit.

If we can get the academies producing 2-3 AFL standard players a year (Like GC is currently doing) the league will be in much better shape.

They aren’t exactly standing up to the afl. They are politely asking in their own best interest (invited feedback mind you). In the end they will all fall in line because they don’t have a choice. Clubs are not private entities.

The only reason the big clubs are big is because they are old. That doesn’t give them as much rights as they think it gives them, they all drink from the same cup that the afl gives them.

There will be some changes, but nothing will stop the AFLs quest for growth and future revenue.

Father son is one of my favourite rules of our sport. Definitely adds a layer of enjoyment seeing a footy family legacy at a club.

I think a pretty simple solution is to remove the points discount. The benefot of getting your Academy or F/S player would then be offset by the loss of drafting position later.

If fair value is paid then much of the unfairness disappears.

Think it should be you need a pick within 10 of the bid and another pick to match points. Then all picks should drop away heavily and points stop at 40. Look at the picks Dogs used to match JUH.

Yep using low picks to cobble together points is a farce.
Dogs should have been forced to find a top 5 pick

Not when the administration of the “competition” is actively helping them. Its a level of corruption that simply doesn’t remotely exists in any other professional team sport. Wouldn’t it be a great story if Detroit won a superbowl or Luton won an EPL title. Does that mean the governing bodies should change rules to give them clear advantages to create the story? I have no idea why anyone who claims to love this game would think any of these exceptions would be good for the game. Good for the game is the most even playing field possible & no interference from the AFL.

Spot on. If you’re a small market team overseas and generate the league no revenue, they don’t give you hand outs. Yet, these clubs in the AFL who are propped up by clubs like ours, get extra benefits.

It is like being on the doll which would be paid higher than the average salary. Don’t make sense.

It makes perfect sense when you understand that its clear corruption. The AFL are supposed to be administrating a competition NOT being an active participant in it by effectively owning clubs & then basterdising the rules to benefit those clubs. Everything they do is correct marketing procedure on how to successfully run a monopoly not on how to run a fair competition. I can’t think of any other world sport that comes close outside of Wrestling.

It’s funny how blatant it is yet people act like it’s nothing haha. Essendon, Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton, WCE, Adelaide should go to AFL house and protest. These are the clubs who make the league 90% of their profits.

Brisbane. It really is. I am at what they call a “Rugby School.” Lads go professional league and union every year yet now I have a couple of classes who have 5-8 kids playing footy for a club. This is very new.

We played the Palm beach Currumbin in a state semi 10 years ago and we had 10 blokes who had only played at school for us and lost by 100+. None of their kids went on with it to the AFL.
We played them 2 years ago (featuring Walter and Graham…lucky us), but now had to cut kids who played for club. Went down by 50 (gave up 5 goals in the last when we tried to take em on) but we were able to go toe to toe with them. It has been a huge shift down here.

That’s good to hear, did the afl ever manage to get into the gps schools in Brisbane? I know in the girls equivalent schools they did recently. Apparently the gps boys schools is the last barrier to knock over and the game will explode up there, that’s where all the great qld athletes across many sports have come out of, but they banned australian football previously and are still worried about letting it in (amazing considering it’s our only national sport).

I know the afl got into the elite Sydney schools though, they have a good competition running these days, schools like Newington, st ignatius etc.

I am at one of those schools. It is in - and going gangbusters - in what would be seen as the second tier (sporting wise) comp. We have not got it yet, probably another cycle or two of principals before it has a chance.

We only play because a few staff love it and get it going each year. No other GPS schools enter the comp.

Easy to properly develop players when you have a strong core of talent that are continually topped up with elite kids that other clubs have no access too. Sydney Simple wouldn’t be as successful without their concessions.

Swans wouldn’t be in the 8 without it yet their flag favs. Don’t ever hear it mentioned from the media
