Numbers - 2017

Why would you change from 22 to 19, or 27 to 15?
Because 27 and 19 should belong to ruckmen.

With 27 being given to Davis, Merrett and Redman, I think that “less than 40 year” tradition is in the rubbish bin.

And 19 only became a ruckman’s number because Peter Somerville wanted to wear his father’s number. His father was a HFF.

Robin Close and Mark Eustice also wore 19.

Number 1 - Andrew McGrath

Has to happen

Give him a high number and then Stantons #5 or Watsons #4 when they retire.

We’ve got 1, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 31, 37, 38, 41, 42 and 46 free.

I suspect Stewart has got 37 (wore 36 at GWS) and someone said Dea will take 49 again.

McGrath 1 (you can see the marketing significance)
Ridley 14
McKenna 15
Clarke 16
Green 38
Kelly 47
Mutch 19
Leave 31 free again
Begley 17

Retire 17, or give it to Kelly as he can probably resist The Curse.

Retire 17, or give it to Kelly as he can probably resist The Curse.

Except injury

Last year the numbers were given out according to draft order. Expect the same again this year, notwithstanding some possible number changes for the likes of Dea, McKenna, Kelly.

Just using a little bit of logic and/or poetic licence, presuming Kelly and Dea WANT to change numbers:

16 - Green - (because he was 6 at Brisbane)
17 - Dea - (because he was 7 at Ninthmond)
19 - Kelly - (because he was 9 at Geelong)

…leaving:

1 - McGrath - (the first number one in our history would be poetic in the #1 guernsey)

14 - any of Ridley, Begley, Mutch, and Clarke, or McKenna uplifting
15 - any of Ridley, Begley, Mutch, and Clarke, or McKenna uplifting
38 - any of Ridley, Begley, Mutch, and Clarke
41 - any of Ridley, Begley, Mutch, and Clarke

…still keep 31 for Mason Fletcher in a couple of years…

The only question then remains is what is happening with Xavier Richards - if anything? His old #42 at Sydney is vacant here…

I like McGrath in #1, hate the idea of pick 1 = #1 but actually think he’s a good fit for #1 regardless.

Like the idea of Ridley in 19. Think Mutch would fit 14, think Clarke can go high and earn an upgrade. Give Lav/Lang upgrades.

Give McGrath 31

Mark johnson was a nuggety defender in guernesey 1, harvey and hibberd also defenders, keep up the tradition and put a defender in 1 #McGrath

1 -McGrath
14 - Ridley
15 - Begley
16 - Stewart
17 - Green
37 - Mutch
38 - Clarke

Mutch and Clarke can earn upgrades in the next year or so. 19 left empty, but I figure Jerret won’t last and we can put two draftees together at 19 & 20 next year.

Would like to see McGrath get #1

^ yeh same i think the top picks need to have a number below 10.

1 - McGrath
14 - Ridley
15 - McKenna
16 - Stewart
17 - Green
19 - Leave vacant for draper
37 - Begley
38 - Mutch
41 - Clarke
45 - Draper

1 – McGrath
14 – Ridley
15 – McKenna
16 – Green
17 – Begley
19 – Dea
31 – (leave vacant)
37 – Stewart
38 – Mutch
41 – Clarke
42 – Draper
47 – Kelly (continued use)

1 - Hartley
14 - McGrath
15 - Ridley
16 - Stewart
17 - Dea
19 - McKenna
31 - Kelly
36 - Green
37 - Draper
38 - Clarke
41 - Mutch
42 - Tippa
43 - Begley

1 - Hartley 14 - McGrath 15 - Ridley 16 - Stewart 17 - Dea 19 - McKenna 31 - Kelly 36 - Green 37 - Draper 38 - Clarke 41 - Mutch 42 - Tippa 43 - Begley

I think I heard Hartley wants to keep 36, and Tippa definitely wants to keep 43. Really can’t see Kelly moving to 31.

^ yeh same i think the top picks need to have a number below 10.

And when no numbers below 10 are available?

McGrath with the #1 guernsey would be awesome. the only issue is that if they give it to him, i can see media sh#theads pulling the “arrogant” card. The kid deserves it though. what a gun
