Official EFC v Dockers Review thread

I recall a kickout to Sandilands. Green was the only player to contest.

Freo, hell any team just walk out of theback half with kick ins

Wanting to slow the game down when we were losing the one on one contests is even more bizarre. Why wouldn’t you make positional changes and allow players to play to their strengths?

Sandilands 0 marks. Must’ve done ok.

Seriously though, for a guy his size Sandi is hopeless overhead

Winning interstate is a bonus? Sure, it’s simple, just win all our games in Melbourne.

So what happens when an interstate team beats us? Or when we lose to geelong, or Richmond? Start planning for 2019?

If we want to be a good team, you need to win interstate. We have 6 games intestate so we should just pencil in 6 losses?

Slowing the game down is fine, but we tried that too but we kept missing targets because our players have shot for skills and got burnt on the turnover.

Lucky we didn’t play adelaide with Walker, Lynch and Crouch otherwise we would be 0-2

Expectations should be realistic, not to say you shouldn’t be disappointed losing but Freo were way over the odds at home. Hartley, Brown and Dea are all just ok, marginally below average AFL players. Individually they could come into a good side and do a job. Building a backline with them and Hurley is bottom 8 stuff.

Last week at 3qtr time I was quenstioning the purchase of my membership, and trying to work out what I could do with the money instead. Then we played that blinder of a last quarter and it papered over all the cracks.

Hurley can’t mark. I know he’s got his thumb issues, but dropping uncontested marks seriously kills us. I’d rather he just play as a defender and spoil to the boundary then being an attacking defender.

I don’t know what’s wrong with Daniher. I don’t think he’s injured because he’s moving ok. When he is winding up and overkicks the ball it’s so deflating for the whole team. Very disapointed that Worsfold didn’t give him a run in the ruck.

Merret I thought was still impacted by his concussion and was tagged out of the game. No impact.

Tippa isn’t chasing down players like he used to. He doesn’t look as quick as last year. Maybe he takes a while to get going but if Fantasia is ready next week I’d be dropping Tippa instead of Green which is something I thought I’d never say.

Stewart was good. Saad good. McKenna good. Smith great. Belly good. But we have played one good quarter for the year. Lucky to be 1-1 IMO.

It is hard to properly assess a game on tv, but I am not as negative on Stringer as some. Sure he was not great but he won some clearances and broke tackles. Essendon as a team I would say are one of the worst in the competition at breaking tackles or getting an effective possession away when tackled. Stringer does this, and the signs are good in that regard.

Ultimately this game we got smashed in the middle, but tonight we were clearly lacking an intercept marking defender. Freo had a loose man in defence or two and it killed us. Our loose men were ordinary, if you cannot go third man up and take an intercept mark or atleast influence the contest then you should not be the loose in defence. SIMPLE!!!

Thank you. His rationale for picking out McKenna had me infuriated. Nice summary.

Freo have improved on last year and will be a handful to beat at home BUT if Essendon honestly believes they can go deep in finals than they need to do better than what they dished up last night

Blew a chance to go 2~0 and worst of all played some very very ordinary football

Lucky it is only round 2

It was a hard night for forwards in general.

Nothing but scrap kicks high when out numbered. And the HFs were trying to push up to far. The mids just got beaten up around the contest and the small mids couldn’t ge their hand on it as a result. Dev smith the exception.

Also then puts the defence seriously under the pump.

We will be average at time this year until our midfield stands up week to week.

If the AFL have a mid season draft my trades are langers dea hartley brown

How to beat Essendon:

  1. double team the forwards
  2. block the centre corridor
  3. apply lots of pressure to the essendon ball carrier

So much this. Taking into account the other results this weekend it was a golden opportunity to get a buffer on some quality teams.

For a trade to occur, another team needs to take them.
Hartley and brown are hopeless, dead and Langford less so

Yep

Very well analysed.

3 blokes pushed Smith about near the boundary, no stepped in, wouldn’t have happened in Sheeds days
