I was living in Sydney in 2000. I went to zero Olympic events.
(I did cycle the marathon route, to see what parking signs needed omission.)
I did go to a day of the Paralympics: $10 entry, go to whichever events you want. It was awesome.

Bets bit of the Sydney Olympics was all the locals fled the town. Kerbside lanes of MANY roads became bus lanes, which in NSW also means bikes may use them. So for two weeks there was no traffic and awesome bike lanes everywhere.
