D-generation came before Comedy Company? I’m sure someone will point out a sketch comedy show that came before that. My favourite was the late show but I guess non of these are sitcoms. Funny though.
you couldn’t make the mavis bramston show these days. what with all the woke and that
What was the one ‘I’ll rip your bloody head off’?
Aunty Jack
Aunty Jack - “I’ll rip yer bloody arms off!”
Another earlyish (80s) sketch show was “Australia You’re Standing In It”, which was hosted by Rod Quantock (later well known in the Captain Snooze ad). It was a great show, introducing us to The Dodgy Brothers, Tim & Debbie and the delights of Chunky Custard.
“The Gillies Report” was also good value, if skewed heavily towards politics. It was on this show that John Clarke made us aware of the sport of farnarkeling.
I still have every episode of these shows on VHS tapes, which must be worth AT LEAST twenty cents these days.
Aunty Jack: If you don’t tune into the Aunty Jack show, l’ll come around to your house, and l’ll rip your bloody arms off.
Thin Arthur: And he will too.
I used to watch the Mavis Bramston show when l was about 15. It had Gordon Chater and Carole Ray. It was a bit risque for the era which is probably what attracted 15 year old boys. It was also on a bit late, on a Saturday night IIRC.
At one stage l also knew Hillary Keneally, sister of Mary, aka Kylie Mole.
Horror faces the same challenge as comedy. The techniques to illicit the desired response from the viewer- a joke for a laugh, a scare for a fright- grow thin and clichéd over time.
It takes someone with a real talent for the art to create a work which holds up throughout the years. There’s only so many fart jokes or jump scares one can use before they grow tired.
She was played by Mary-Anne Fahey I think.
You could well be right, l was led to believe…
I was about to say that.
Mary-Anne Fahey was a schoolmate of a woman I worked with, coincidentally named Amanda…one of those Catholic girls’ schools down the Nepean Hwy.
Was it the same Amanda? Yeah…probably.
There is a story ( may not be true) of a fellow school girl being asked in intellectual theological lessons
- How would you approach Our Lady, the Virgin Mary?
- I’d genuflect, was one answer,
i’ve been on a rewatch of 30 rock
i think it might be the most perfectly crafted sitcom of all time. they don’t go more than about 20 seconds without a joke
this is maybe my 6th rewatch, and at least twice an episode i’m catching jokes i’ve never noticed before
First time visiting the thread.
Any consensus on ones to watch/rewatch?
I think Herbatron’s back catalogue is pretty funny.
