Parish, Caldwell or Hobbs

Shiel is too old to have any trade value……

Does that matter? We give up less and get back less. We still have plenty of cap space for free agents and will still have our first round pick.

THE TIGER ARMY WON’T LIKE THIS TRADE THREAD IN MARCH ON BIT DARCE

Trade all 3 to gain draft capital to trade in Taylor Walker. I reckon blitz will like that.

How many best 22 teams had all three in them?

Shiel def has trade value. But he and the others here I’d want to hold onto this season at least. This season I reckon Shiel will finally shine and want to be part of a proper Bomber upsurge. There’s a momentum building finally and I reckon with injuries, tactics and form the midfield will select itself week on week. Setterfield though is the big in. His presence wilĺ finally engineer real competition between these 3. My money is on Hobbs come 2024 with Calders our tagging go to and becoming a fixture as well.

BDB clearly can handle tricky situations. Already dealing with Hep, Jake and the loss of 2MP well. He’ll keep them all involved.

My controversial take would be that we trade one of Hobbs or Caldwell as a package to try and get the #1 draft pick to select Harley Reid. Don’t get me wrong, I like both Hobbs and Caldwell, but we are in desperate need of superstar talent. Both of those boys are workmanlike players, which is fine. However we lack genuinely elite players, especially in midfield.

If you could pull that off, it’s a good plan.

Is Harley Reid that good ? Lot can happen betwen draft and matchwinner.

Hobbs could easily be elite himself as a CBA/stoppage specialist. I am wary of pushing young players out of the club to bring in supposedly more talented draftees. The impact on club culture of pushing out someone like Hobbs could be more damaging than the benefit of acquiring Reid’s talent.

Goal kicking game changers are way
More valuable than Tom Mitchell type clearance players.

Hawthorn didn’t gut their list to get flogged by 10 goals each week to pick up Hobbs and Caldwell instead of Ried. Their fans would riot.

I would too. Reid will be that good. But it may take 2 first rd picks and a Hobbs to even tempt Hawthorn trading pick one.

With maturity Hobbs will be a match winner. He has that intensity about him.

Is that what we are playing?

Agree on that. Do I expect us to do that? No, because our list manager wouldn’t have the balls to make a deal like that where you are pro-actively giving up something good to get something good. The only trades we make where we trade players out are when the player wants to leave the club. So it’s reactionary stuff. If this kid is as good as advertised and he’s the next champion/generational type player that can alter the course of a football club by how he plays but also with his force of personality and leadership, then you move heaven and earth to try and get them in.

I agree with the principle of having to give up something good, to get something you consider even better back. In this case the Dawks have the inside running on Harley and because they have the whip hand, they will command the asking price. No doubt it will be a high one, a couple of first round picks as a starting point, plus more.

Then of course there are bound to be a number of other clubs also interested and sniffing around. The Dawks will test the water to see what the most attractive deal they can find is. Memo to Essendon, the queue for Harley Reid starts over there, get in line.

If parish keeps up his current form, I’m not sure Pick 19 as a FA compo pick is gonna be worth moving him on for.

Injuries will happen. Brad may repurpose some.

Sit tight, be confident.

If we are already talking about Harley Reid like he is going to be some generational champion, why would Hawthorn (or whoever finishes bottom) consider trading pick one?

If he isn’t a flight risk like JHF, I don’t think the Hawks (or whoever finishes bottom) will even enter basic discussions about trading it. It’ll just be off the table from day one and they’ll plan for 2024 with H. Reid in the squad.
